Importing Chinese Food

Authorities cannot require residents to be knowledgeable enough to

distinguish between Vietnamese goods and Chinese shoddy ones,
especially when it comes to food.
A variety of foods are being smuggled from China and sold nationwide. The
Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development believes that to have a safe
and reliable food source, cooperation from multiple departments is
necessary. Moreover, consumers play a crucial role in comprehension.
Expecting to...consumers!
Mr. Vu Van Tan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and
Rural Development, stated that the influx of
smuggled Chinese food harms domestic
production. However, only when the epidemic
happened, did the Veterinary agency just take part
in inspecting the checkpoints. In the meantime,
there is no law allowing the veterinary agency to
inspect goods.

ensuring food safety at markets, Mr. Tam
confirmed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has
devolved the control of food safety for the entire locals. Thus, that control
will be enforced by the local authorities. According to Mr. Tam, it is crucial
for local authorities to actively participate in this effort. If they did not take
on this responsibility and consumers did not report the smuggling of
substandard goods, the control of food safety would be ineffective.
To combat smuggling, the Hanoi Department of Trade emphasized the
need to eliminate corruption within all functional forces. If the anti-
smuggling force were corruptible, we would not control the border
stringently as well as control tens of thousands of domestic small traders.
Currently, smuggled Chinese goods are widespread in our country. Mr. Phu
believes that the root of smuggling is the reasonable prices of Chinese
goods; thus, it is difficult for domestic goods to compete in the markets. In
addition, the majority of residents are still struggling to make ends meet,
many people want to tighten their belts, so they consume food and
agricultural products sold at “dirt cheap” prices.
