Gerontologist/Geriatrician

A geriatrician is a specialist doctor who is an expert in the health of older people (those
aged 65 and older). A minimum of 6 years of full-time training is needed to specialize in this
area.

Geriatric doctors provide primary care to patients over 65, focusing on prevention,
diagnosing, and treating age-related health problems. They understand the unique conditions or
medical concerns that older adults may have. They also learn methods for mitigating or
preventing these conditions or their symptoms

Geriatrician Responsibilities:

1. Diagnosing and treating illnesses.


2. Refer patients to specialists.
3. Monitoring the side effects of medication.
4. Assessing the risks of medications.
5. Paying attention to the mental and physical health of patients.
6. Providing medical and lifestyle advice.
