Cloud-based CMSs in Education

1. Abstract
During the recent years, online applications for learning and teaching play a significant
role in the field of education and e-learning has become a very popular trend of the education
technology. However, with the huge growth of the number of users, data and educational
resources generated, e-learning systems have become more and more expansive in terms of
hardware and software resources, and many educational institutions cannot afford such
investments. Due to its tremendous advantages, cloud computing technology rises swiftly as a
natural platform to provide support to e-learning systems. The aim of this paper is to give an
overview of the current state and the impact of the use of cloud computing for e-learning.

The first step in finding the relevant documents for our project is to go through all studies done
between the years 2015 - 2020. The search was made on three different websites and here is the total
number of results on which we will start to work on: IEEExplore -12,293, ScienceDirect - 136,163,
SpringerLink - 270,525.

2. Inclusion and Exclusion

2.1. Only Articles, Journals.

We started with the inclusion part, where after the first filter applied, we had a total of 203,340
results from all the websites mentioned above.

The exclusion part was made for Chapter, Conference Paper, Reference Work Entry, Protocol,
Book, Conference Proceedings, Conference info, Conference Abstracts, Encyclopedia , Book Chapter,
Case reports, Correspondence, Discussion, Editorials, Errata, Examinations, Reviews, News, Practice

Total Results 2,051 1,781 31,357

After these two big criteria applied, we merged all the results in one document and we had a total
of 35,189 documents relevant for our theme of the project.

2.3. Only Articles, Journals, with technical background, in English

After we merged all the results, the next filter applied was the one based on language. We applied
a filter to get all the documents in English.
Because we had a large number of search strings and we did the research on three different
websites, we also applied a filter based on the title of the documents for deleting all the duplicates.
With these two filters applied, the number of the relevant documents was 3,663.

2.4. Only relevant documents for our project

The next action in our project was to go through all the results and only keep the relevant work
for us. We decided that the first keyword for our manual filter to be “cloud”. Based on this, the number of
results was 1,074.
The next important keyword was “education” and we also added some of the synonyms for this
one. We did the filtering for “training”, “teaching”, “learning”, “school”, “university” and we had a total
of 58 results relevant for our work.
