10 practical ways to have an overflowing relationship with God

The desire to know God and love him and the deep hunger to live and walk daily in the
consciousness that God is pleased with us is innate in every Child of God.

No one who has received eternal life into his spirit is content to remain in the shallow waters of
religious activities that is not vitalized by the presence of our dear heavenly father.

We desire to know Him as the father we have called Him in the reality of our daily life.

We want to live as we are described by the psalmist " the tree planted by the rivers of waters".
It is my desire and yours too, to remain connected and refreshed by the living waters, that is
why you have read this article to this point.

You have asked and you are still asking where are the initial experiences that accomplished the
new birth.

The joy unspeakable, the love for God and others, the desire to fellowship with other brethren.

Oh! How glorious was it? Did I just say you say “was it”.? Yes! That is the experience of many
sons and daughters of God today.

But the story can change, you can have a continuous flow of smooth relationship with God and
that is so real for others to testify.

You can have a better day every day in your relationship with God.

I know you have tried many times and probably have failed, and you have read so many articles
like this one but the impact last for just a while.

Maybe, you have lost the hunger and the thirst for that living relationship.

The flames are now turned to ashes because of many times of unfruitful efforts.

Rejoice!

That's why I am taking my time to stir up your faith again, no matter where you are now in your
walk with God.

You are rising from that dungeon to the place of glorious fellowship that God through Christ has
purchased for us.

No matter what is your present experience with God these 10 practical ways will help you to
enjoy an overflowing relationship with God.
 1. Begin and continue in Faith

I know exactly how you feel right now, "I know this well," you said. But the truth is there is no
greater temptation for the child of God than to start without faith or to step out of faith.

That is why we are admonished by the word to fight the good fight of faith.

All the scriptures are now popping up in your mind, right? scriptures like "for without faith it is
impossible to please God".
Sadly, how easily we lose sight of this and start making so many efforts to please God in some
other ways like keeping rules and regulations self-denial and all the rest methods applied in our
relationship with God.

Dearly beloved of God faith is the foundation upon which everything else in our relationship with
God stands. To lose faith is to lose everything.

You cannot afford to base your relationship with God on how you feel, the opinions of men or
any other thing.

Faith is the life wire, it is our connectivity to God and to lose it is to be insulated from the life of
God.

What is Faith?

I am going to define faith most practically.

Here is it,

Faith is the response of your spirit (heart) to the revelation of God's word that makes you speak
and act accordingly.

In other words, God said it, I received it and therefore I speak and act so.

"For with the heart a man believe unto righteousness and with the mouth, confession is made
unto salvation”

What does this mean to you?

● You can be sure God loves you even when you don't feel so because His word said so.
● You know you are heard every time you pray because He said so.
 ● You are sure He is always with you because of His word and therefore continued to live
daily in His presence
What a glorious life that will be!

2. Value the word

Many people who feel so far away from God must indeed have stayed away from His word. I
quite understand how much such people have struggled to read and study the word regularly.

But the struggle to read and to study the word ends when we truly appreciate the value of the
word to us.

Dear friend!
Many of the struggles in your life are rooted in your inability to identify the inestimable difference
between the word of God and the words of men!

When men speak they have to try with all their abilities to make sure the words come to pass
but when God speaks, His words can produce what He talks about.

The word of God is the raw material for all that is created.

That's not all!

The word of God is God Himself.

The word is the full revelation of His person, power and glory.

When you want to honour God honour His Word!

When you want to love him love His word

The word of God is God giving out himself to you.

And that word is your life!

All you will ever need in your life is in the word.

Cherish the word!

Go for the word!
And stay in the word!

And you will never have a down day in your life.

3. Quickly Obtain forgiveness

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all
unrighteousness.
1 John 1:9 KJV

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an
advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
1 John 2:1 KJV

Nothing cripples our walk with God like the guilt and condemnation of sin.

if you are struggling in your relationship with God, you probably are a victim of sin(s) you feel
God has not forgiven you or something too bad that God can't forgive.

But Hey!

Did you see the scriptures above? Read it again and again!

That's the truth of God's word and you have to believe it now and after now to keep on walking
with God.

You don't have to sin, you can grow in your faith so much that sin is no more a challenge in your
life.

But as long you still have sin issues, forgiveness is a gift you must learn to obtain from the
father and that you must do as quickly as possible.

Acknowledge your sin(s) and obtain forgiveness in the name of Jesus. Notice I say obtain, yes!
Obtain forgiveness! Because you have an advocate with the father Jesus Christ the righteous!

Spend no more day or hour or minute in guilt and condemnation.

Take advantage of the riches of God's grace and concentrate on your fellowship with God and
your life will turn into an overflowing stream of fellowship with God where sin cannot survive.

4. Learn to forgive others quickly

This reminds me of the parable told by Jesus of a servant who owed his master so much that he
couldn't pay and his master handed him over to be jailed but was forgiven after pleading with his
master.

This same servant found another servant who was owing him much less than he was owing his
master but refused to forgive him and put him in prison.
There is no more condemnation for us who are in Christ Jesus but you can't enjoy the reality of
it until you learn to forgive others quickly.

You have been forgiven much so it grieves the Holy Spirit when you can't forgive others quickly
and totally.

You can't remain in unforgiveness and enjoy your relationship with God. Bitterness, offences
and unforgiveness are like dirt that Satan uses to stop your well of salvation.

Don't say it is difficult because you now have the nature of God in you and that has made it
possible and even easy for you.

So make up your mind to always forgive in all circumstances and you'll discover a new level of
glorious intimacy with God.

5. Have a quiet time

Being built up in faith by the word of God and having your heart and mind free from all guilt and
condemnations, you are now ready to go deeper with God.

God is a person, and just like you have to create time to be with any person to know the person,
is the same way we have to create the time where you can be alone with the word and the Spirit
of God in prayer and meditation.

This is the discipline of every man who has or is walking with God.

What do you do in your quiet time

Find a comfortable posture most of the time, lying down quietly is the perfect posture.

Get yourself focuses on the lord by singing in worship and declaring his glory and greatness.

Go for the word, don't just study this time around meditate deeply, and prayerfully think through
the word.

The presence, glory and the power of the word will be unveiled before you and it will permeate
through your whole being.

It may seem difficult in the beginning but you have to discipline yourself. Jesus did the same,
he would wake earlier than everyone and go to a secluded place to pray.

This is where we are inspired, transfigured and changed from glory to glory.

6. Be conscious of the Holy Spirit

The biggest word in Christianity is the Greek word ”koinonia” which means communion,
fellowship, partnership and oneness. The reality of the Holy Spirit living in us and our ability to
fellowship with Him is the most beautiful thing and greatest miracle of Christianity.

It is the life of God lived by God in and through man.

Isn't that glorious?

Holy Spirit is the one who makes the word real to us.

He brings to us the love of the Father and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ through our
communion with him.

He is our helper
He is our teacher
He is our comforter( how comforting this is?).

He came to perform in and through us the will of God.

Recognize and honour his presence in your life by speaking to him often.

Talk to him about everything in any circumstances and you'll discover how real and great a
helper he is.

You have been trying to live the Christian life all by yourself, now let Him live through you.
Remain yielded to his instructions for he talks to you always if only you'll train yourself to listen
to Him and you will experience ever-increasing glory in your life.

7. Stay connected to the family

Another beautiful thing that our faith in God brings to us is a new family.

When you have found the faith, you will find the people of like precious faith.

These people is the family God has given us in Christ. They are brothers and sisters we have
found in faith.

The importance of staying connected to this community cannot be overemphasized.

That is where we are been taught the word to grow thereby and worship God together in truth
and Spirit.
That is where we are straightened out, where we are taught love, patience, and forgiveness as
we grow among the bethren.

We are comforted and our faith is fired up by the faith of others.

Glory of this fellowship with other bethren is beyond word,

You can only experience it yourself!

8. Walk in love

Love is the excellent way. It is the peak of our Christian journey it is where we began, it is the
path we follow and it is the destination we are going.

Love is everything for love is God. To live in love is to live in God.

Hope, Faith and Love are the greatest principles of the human spirit but Love is greater than all,
hope is for the future, faith is for now but Love is for all time.

By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you love one another, says Jesus to us.

It is the only commandment for us in Christ because in it all other commandments are fulfilled.

Brethren!
Let us live and walk in love for this is the new life we have received.

9. Keep on renewing your mind

Studying the scriptures and in my personal experience, one of the most important gifts we have
is the ability to think like God for we have the mind of Christ.

You have to train your mind to think differently now.

You have been recreated in Christ, and you need to have new thoughts too. For as you think so
are you.

What are you to think about?

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things
are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of
good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Philippians 4:8 KJV
This is your new way of thinking.

10. Live for God

To find the will of God and live in it is the only source of joy and satisfaction in life.

Living for God and serving his purpose is the excellent life.

That is what we are created and recreated to do.

Winning souls for God because he that wins soul is wise!

Soul-winning is the business of God on earth and we are His partners in winning others.

God has committed to our trust the ministry of reconciliation, so we must let the whole world
know that Christ died for their sin and rose again for their justification!
