A brief comment about TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD!

First of all, take into account the title. To Kill a Mockingbird. As many of you expressed
in previous mails a mockingbird is an innocent, harmless creature which just sings
baeutifully imitating the singing of other birds.

In the novel, we may apply this concept to people. For instance, Tom Robinson may be
the most important mockingbird in the story. He is an innocent, decent coloured man
being accused of a crime he has not committed, and found guilty by a jury of white
people just for the colour of his skin. We should take into account thet the novel takes
place in the South of the United States where racism is still very present. Although his
lawyer, Atticus Finch is able to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that Tom was
unable to commit the crime, he is found guilty anyway and gets killed when trying to
escape from prison.

But Tom is not the only mockingbird in our story. Take Boo, for instance, he is a nice,
shy guy who helps the kids, Scout and Gem, nevertheless he is considered an outcat
and a dangerous person. Justice seems to be blind and that is what the kids discover
though the course of the trial and itas ending. Both sibblings turn out to be
mockingbirds too. At the beginning of the novel they are just two kids who enjoy playing
and being with their father who is a widower who tries to teach them important moral
values and lessons. At the end of the novel, the kids have lost their innocence to
realise that the world is not the fair and just place they thought it was and that people
tend to judge others based on false judgements.
