Fundamentals of Effective Communication in the Workplace

Communication refers to the process in which convey of the information is through the

nonverbal, verbal, or even written processes. In any business environment, communication is the

most fundamental tool for the operation and the success of that business. In this current time,

with economy of the world becoming more global, the success of any business lies on the

effective communication as an important factor. Both the internal and the external

communication must be effective to ensure that the prosperity of the business. Therefore, most of

the organizations have adapted the idea of training the employees on the effective

communication so that they can be proffesional in the conversations made for the business

purposes to either internal or external environment. Hence, once someone has understood the

importance of the effective communication, then there will be ease in communicating with the

workmates, potential customers, and even the suppliers to the firm. In turn, it leads to increase in

the productivity of the business.

As the Chief Executive Officer of the zonic Company, I had the responsibility of

cordinating the efficient workflow in the organization with all the departments, both in the

country and the ones oversees. Theefore, it calls for a better creation of communication in the

business environment since the company was dealing with both the international and national

customers and the supliers on daily basis. The commonly used communication channels were

used included phone calls, e-mails, meetings, face-to-face, and even video and teleconference. In

the international environment, the company was working with different manufacturers, dealers,

and even distributors from different countries and in different types of business deals.

One day, there was a potential customer who was willing to buy the company’s product

from the abroad branch. The problem with this customet was that he could not speak in English.

It had lead to disagreement between him and the operational manager of the abroad branch. The

customer then called to the main office and requested to speak to the CEO in charge of the

company. The person was speaking chinease, and that was a great barrier to the effective

communication with the cliet.

As a CEO who didd not want to loose the client, I decided to send the text to the person.

The text was in English and that posted a warry whether that will annoy him most, making him

to loose hope in doing business with the company. Moreover, that was not the one of the

communication channel in the company. Funly enough, the person replied to the text, and from

his text, he explained his order. Thereafter, the company was able to succeed in serving the

client. However, the shareholders were on my neck as having not followed the right channel of

communication laid down by the organization. From there, I got my demotion letter

immediately. Two years later, when the company stakeholders had experienced more of the

similar cases, I was given a higher rank as the manager of the company. It was because the idea

that I had used was an invention to the company as another means of agent communication to

search clients. Therefore, it was a form of an appreciation.

The reasons as to why this communication was effective are that it could be an evidence

in future since it was recorded somewhere. In addition, it served the argent matter making the

client happy, and building the image of the company. Thirdly, eventhough the distance long, the

communication was enabled at a faster speed, leading to quick service to the without wasting

someone’s time that could create blame and reputation to the company.

The impact of this communication was that the potential customer was attracted and

retained to the company’s products. He enjoyed the services of the company at a faster speed. In

addition, the company builds on its image and reputation. The client spoke well of the services

offered by the company and it attracted more customers to the company more so from abroad,

expanding the market area of the company. Lastly, the Chief Executive Office gets a promotion

to the managerial position due to the quick thinking on how to solve a communication barrier

that can affect the effective communication in the business environment.
