The School For Good And Evil

Directed by: Paul Feig

I was right about how I thought about the movie from its title “The School For Good And
Evil”. And yes, there is a separate school between good people and evil ones. I watched the
movie twice since it was part of our school activity in English for Academic Purposes Program
(EAPP). And it is not an ordinary school, let me share my insights about this movie.

At the Gavaldon, Sophie and Agatha were from poor families and people make fun of them,
especially Agatha, the way she dresses. When they get into the school for good and evil, Sophie
has a pretty and innocent face, that’s why I am not expecting her to belong with the evil group.
While my first impression with Agatha was different, as if between the two of them she looks
like the one who probably belongs to an evil school. And ofcourse, my expectation turns upside
down since I realized that she's better than that. Sophie and Agatha fall for the same man,
Tedros. But since Sophie chose to be bad, she decided to get with Rafal, the evil master that once
betrayed his twin brother and killed him. Rhian was the twin brother and also the good master.
The whole time Rhian shows up in the film I never thought that it was Rafal , pretending to be
him.

Aside from the excellent casts, the people in Gavaldon where the two main characters are
from still believe in witches and the setting just matches the way they dress like they were
from the 14th or 18th century. And in the world of the school for good and evil is much
different, in Gavaldon it was full of magical effects. The school for good was so beautiful, like
they wore beautiful gowns and everything you could see in a fairytale. It is very different from
the school for evil where everything is dark and not so pretty in the eyes, it is more on how you
could imagine hell.

The movie was fantastic and the character’s journey was delivered so well. At first, Sophia
Anne Caruso as Sophie, loves to read books and fantasizes being a princess and discovered a
book from a librarian and she was so desperate to get out of Gavaldon that is why she decided
to believe the rumor about the book. She wrote a Letter and left it in the tree and it seems nothing
happened at first but then something out of nowhere took her with her best friend Agatha, played
by Sofia Wylie. Agatha was dropped in the school for good while Sophie unexpectedly became
the princess of the school for evil which at first she refused like she does not belong there.
Meanwhile, Agatha cannot believe that she will be separated from her best friend. She knows to
herself that Sophie belongs to the school for good.

I love how the film starts where Sophie and Agatha live in a place full of negative people
but it does not affect them and their friendship. Even in the other world where Sophie decides to
be the evil princess and becomes so bad that she doesn't care even if she hurts her best friend .
Despite everything that has happened ,Agatha was not discouraged and believes that Sophie is
not evil.

The School For Good and Evil may be at its best in the end where Agatha chooses Sophie
when she has the choice to live with Tedros whom she met in the school for good.Agatha
deserves to be at the school for good because she cares so much, not only for her friend but also
for others. There is part of the film where Agatha wishes on a wishing lake to free the little girl
who became a wishing lake hundred years ago. I realized that if you truly care for others, you are
a good person.

The film was worth watching even though I am not into fantasy movies that much . I would
highly recommend it for kids, they will surely love this. But if there is something i would suggest,
it is in the last part. I prefer Agatha to live with Tedros and Sophie to be the princess which she
always wanted to be and make Rafal fall in love with her so he is going to change his evilness
into kindness and then they all have their happy endings.
