To learn and adapt: Inevitable conquering of modern technology in education

Over the years, modern technology has drastically transformed different aspects of society,
including the education sector and many more (Li & Lalani, 2019). In the Philippines, the
integration of modern technology has played a crucial role in revolutionizing the education
system, improving the quality of education, increasing student engagement, and providing access
to a vast range of educational resources with vast counts of technology to use (Li & Lalani, 2019;
Department of Education, 2018).

Modern technology has revolutionized the way education is delivered and has brought numerous
benefits to students, educators, and the education system in the Philippines and many other
countries (Ciccarelli et al., 2021). One of the most significant positive impacts of modern
technology is the access to a vast range of educational resources (Li & Lalani, 2019). With
modern technology, students can grasp to information at their fingertips, making learning more
accessible and efficient (Ciccarelli et al., 2021).

Another significant benefit of modern technology in education is the ability to make learning
more engaging and interactive with many softwares to use (Department of Education, 2018).
Traditional teaching methods such as lectures and textbooks can be dull and disengaging, lazy
and boring, making it challenging for students to understand and retain information (Li & Lalani,
2019). However, with modern technology, students can learn through interactive activities,
videos, simulations, and games that are more engaging and exciting and can possibly improve
them in some instances (Ciccarelli et al., 2021).

Modern technology has also made collaboration and communication and connections among
students and educators more accessible and efficient (Department of Education, 2018). The use
of online discussion forums, group projects, and online platforms has facilitated collaboration
and teamwork among students, leading to better communication skills and enhancing their ability
to work effectively in groups even without being there physically (Li & Lalani, 2019).
Additionally, modern technology has made it easier for educators to collaborate with colleagues,
share ideas, and access a vast range of teaching resources to be able to work more efficiently
(Department of Education, 2018).

Despite the numerous benefits of modern technology in education, there are potential downsides
that need to be addressed (Ciccarelli et al., 2021). One significant downside is the potential for
increased screen time, which can have negative effects on students' mental health and wellbeing
(Li & Lalani, 2019). The overuse of technology can lead to problems such as eye strain, poor
posture, and addiction, leading to a sedentary lifestyle that can negatively impact students'
overall health (Ciccarelli et al., 2021).

Another potential downside of modern technology in education is the cost associated with the
integration of technology in the classroom (Department of Education, 2018). The cost of
infrastructure, software, and hardware required to implement modern technology in the
classroom can be substantial, making it challenging for some schools to access and integrate
modern technology into their educational programs (Li & Lalani, 2019).

To maximize the benefits of modern technology in education and minimize its potential
downsides, there is a need for careful planning and implementation. Here are some
recommendations that can help achieve this:

Firstly, educational institutions and the government should invest in the necessary infrastructure
and equipment to integrate modern technology in the classroom effectively (Department of
Education, 2018). They should also provide teachers with training to ensure they can effectively
use modern technology to deliver high-quality education (Ciccarelli et al., 2021).

Secondly, educators and students should be made aware of the potential risks associated with
overusing technology. Teachers should teach students how to use technology responsibly and
encourage them to take breaks from screen time , it is essential to acknowledge that the benefits
far outweigh the drawbacks. To maximize the potential benefits of modern technology in
education, it is crucial to carefully plan and implement its integration, while also addressing any
potential downsides.
