be defined as people who live in the same
location, share common interests, jointly own or
participate in something, share common
characteristics or have mutual relations.

interconnected relationships of the various
social groups and institutions in which people

use their abilities to build and transform the community.

Planning Process
1st. Getting ready
2nd. Articulating your mission and vision
3rd. Assessing the situation
4th Developing strategies, goals and
objectives.
5th. Completing the written plan.
6th. Think through the Implementation plan
1. Step One is Getting Ready.
If you decide to move forward, you’ll have to determine:

• Which issues the planning process should address

• Clarify each person’s role
• Create a planning committee
• Develop an organizational profile

• Identify what information/data must be collected before

sound decisions can be made.
2. Articulating your Mission and Vision
A mission statement is like an introductory paragraph, it lets the reader know
where the writer is going, and it also shows that the writer knows where he or she
is going. Likewise, a mission statement must communicate the essence of an
organization to the reader. An organization’s ability to articulate its mission
indicates its focus and purposefulness..

On the other hand, the vision statement should outline what success will look like.
Once your group has decided on its mission statement and its vision statement,
there is a shared sense of what it is you’re planning for.
3. Assessing the Situation
• Once an organization has committed to why it exists and what it does,
it must take a clear-eyed look at its current situation.

• Remember that part of strategic planning, thinking and management is

an awareness of resources and an eye to the future environment so that
an organization can successfully respond to changes in the
environment.

• The point is to choose the most important issues to address. The

planning committee should agree into more than five to 10 critical
issues around which to organize the strategic plan.
4th. Developing Strategies, Goals, and
Objectives.
• The leaders of your organization ultimately must agree on how
to address critical issues. That’s not always a simple process.
You likely will have to obtain additional information and
perhaps revisit conclusions reached during the assessment
phase. Your mission statement might even change.
5th. Completing the Written Plan
• You know what you want your mission to be. You’ve identified the critical
issues, goals, and strategies. Now you must get everything in a written form.
That includes action plans designed to accomplish the goals in the strategic
plan.

• “Revisions should not be dragged out for months, but action should be taken
to answer any important questions that are raised at this step. It would
certainly be a mistake to bury conflict at this step just to wrap up the process
more quickly because the conflict, if serious, will notably undermine the
potency of the strategic directions chosen by the planning committee.
6th. Implementation of Plan

Implementation is the carrying out of planned,

intentional activities that aim to turn evidence
and ideas into policies and practices that work
for people
Important features of a community
1. Community commonly consists of individual persons who, although are
separate human beings, are interconnected and interdependent in various ways
and often have similar values and aims. In this way, a crowd or established group
can operate together as a community separately from the life of each of its
members. That is, a community is as much the collective of individuals who make
it up, as well as the separate lives of the individuals within it.

2. Community may create a bond between some people and excludes others. Thus community implies and
creates a boundary between us and them, inside the group and outside the group.

2. Community may create a bond between some people and
excludes others. Thus, community implies and creates a boundary
between us and them, inside the group and outside the group.

3. This boundary is usually marked in symbolic ways. There are many types of
symbols or features which mark the boundaries of community - flags, tribal
totem (or sign), provinces, dances, languages and so on.
Example, The Igorot are one of the most well-known
indigenous groups in the Philippines. They are often referred
to as the mountain people because they live in the
mountainous regions of the country.
• The Lumad are a group of indigenous
people who live in the southern Philippines.
They are known for their unique customs
and traditions, including their intricate
beadwork and weaving.

One of the biggest issues facing the Lumad is land rights. Many Lumad communities are being
displaced by mining and logging companies, which are encroaching on their ancestral lands. The
Lumad have been fighting for their land rights for many years and continue to face many
challenges.

Education
Another important issue facing the Lumad is education. Many Lumad children do not have access
to formal education, which limits their opportunities for the future. There are many organizations
working to provide education to Lumad children and help them preserve their cultural heritage.
The Mangyan are a group of
indigenous people who live in
Mindoro, an island in the Philippines.
They are known for their intricate
weaving and basket-making skills.

Religion and Beliefs

The Mangyan are a deeply spiritual people and have many unique beliefs and traditions. They
believe in a variety of gods and spirits, and their religious practices often involve offerings and
rituals.

Socio-economic Issues
The Mangyan face many socio-economic issues, including poverty and lack of access to
healthcare. Many Mangyan communities are isolated and do not have access to basic services,
which makes it difficult for them to improve their standard of living.
Types of Community

2. Urban
3. Suburban
All communities are dynamic in nature. They act, interact, evolve and change as
a result of larger political and economic forces as well as internal and external
forces. A community and its meaning might vary with each member’s unique
understanding. There can be many kinds of community such as:

1. Local community
