Grading Rubric
_____ C
( ) There are eleven sources, all source types are present, with annotations of
about 100-150 words apiece.
( ) Each source is academically credible.
( ) Each annotation includes a summary, an assessment, and a reflection.
( ) Each annotation establishes some relevance to your Research Question.
( ) Keeps general commentary for “padding” the length of the annotations to a
minimum.
( ) May include stylistic issues or mechanical errors, but not to the point that the
essay is difficult to understand.
( ) Follows all Writing in Music guidelines for bibliography citations with few
major errors.
_____ B (80–89)
If you meet all of the standards above for a C and, in addition, achieve these
standards:
( ) Addresses assignment and requirement conditions thoughtfully and/or
originally.
( ) Clearly explains why each source is unique in its support for your Research
Question.
( ) Each annotation points out specific, relevant features of the source.
( ) Any citation errors are isolated and very minor.
( ) There are very few grammatical errors.
_____ A (90–100)
If you meet all of the standards above for a B and, in addition:
( ) Especially complex or original in thought
( ) Especially sophisticated in expression
( ) Excellent work explaining the uniqueness of sources
( ) Especially compelling in purpose
( ) Especially thorough
( ) Excellent citation formatting
_____ D or F
If your bibliography does not meet the requirements for a C, you will earn a grade
of D (60-69) or F(<60), depending on the severity of problems you have with one
or more of the first standards, and you should schedule a conference with your
teacher.
