Coconut Grove was known for having an experienced obeah man that always predicted outcomes for the better or
worse and the name of this man was Waspie.
The day was raining and overcast and a middle aged woman was walking through the mud to visit an obeah man.
Soon later, she arrived at the small hut and knocked but there was no response. She realised that the door was unlocked
and entered.
“I done know why you come here” a deep and crackled voice said “You want to know if your man horning you.” The
woman reluctanly answered confused as to how he had already known this.
“How you know that?” she questioned
“Spirit does talk to me and tell me everything” he replied “That man of yours horning you right now”
The woman started to cry and asked to call his price for this session. Waspie denied payment this time and said that next
time he would demand a fee.
Nightfall has arrived and Waspie had been in his hut for the entire day.
“O mighty spirit please let me know what my wife is doing” Waspie whisphered
Nobody knew Waspie had a wife as she had left him a long time ago during his first year of performing obeah. The spirit
flashed images quickly through Waspie’s mind indicating what his wife was doing at that time. He seemed content as to
what was happening but demanded the spirits to show him more about his wife.
“Go in the bush and you will be able to know everything about your wife” the spirit mumbled in in his mind. Waspie
obsessive over this woman quickly bolted out his hut and into the forest.
“Deeper, go deeper” the spirit continuously murmured in his mind. Waspie kept going further into the forest
with flashing images of his wife with another man. He was horrified and was screaming as after all these years he still
loved her. He soon fell to the ground, crying still with the images repeatedly showing up. The spirits had betrayed
Waspie as its intention was to drag him out to the deep forest where no one would find him and torture him. They did
this because he disturbed there peace and didn’t let them rest in peace.
As months past Waspie was never found and people say that they hear his screams but could never find him. To
this day people passing through Coconut Grove still stop to ask for Waspie.
