TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
A classroom is more than simply a place to learn how
to pass exams. English language learning imparts
essential communication and creative skills, while
literature fosters emotional intelligence, empathy and
an appreciation of the richness of human
experiences. These essential skills, enable students
to confidently navigate the complexities of the
modern world, whilst caring about others and the
world around them. I aim to empower the students,
show them care and compassion, whilst also giving
them space to establish their own viewpoints and
values.

Academy. Gorleston on Sea. 2016 – 2017
I developed all KS4 resources to align with the
2017 new GCSE specifications, including
'Supra-curricular' program for high-achieving
students. I was selected to mentor a trainee
English teacher as my teaching was deemed
‘Outstanding.’ I spearheaded the 'Accelerated
Reader' program, coordinating staff and
fostering a love for reading. I also provided
workshops for staff on pupil engagement.

After developing the KS4 SOWs, the school's
inaugural GCSE results were 30% above the
national average. Despite being newly
qualified, I showed leadership by creating all
SOWs and was graded ‘Good/Outstanding’. I
spearheaded innovative creative workshops
and organised literary events such as author
visits, theatre trips and even a book themed

In my Head of KS3 role, I meticulously developed all
KS3 Schemes of Work and a supra-curriculum,
efficiently managed data, assessments, staff
meetings, and open evenings. To foster a love of
literature, I initiated and organised 9 book fairs, 4
World Book Day events, and 4 National Poetry Day
celebrations. Additionally, I established and managed
a fully-functioning library and pioneered a
community outreach program for creative writing
with a local disability charity. My role in the school
was deemed as meeting ‘Outstanding’ criteria by
SLT. I provided whole-school training on literacy,
feedback, and BFL. I was selected for two T&L task
forces whereby, collaborating with SLT, I observed
staff, offering constructive feedback and contributed
to whole school curriculum planning. Additionally, I
effectively taught Drama to KS3 in 2 years and
developed SOWs for the Drama Department.

KS4. During the pandemic, I delivered 'Outstanding'

staff kindness awards for making cups of tea!

I lead the department by developing a whole
curriculum including all SOWs, assessment which
became a school model. My initiatives for literacy
promotion resulted in a notable 4-year increase in
students' average reading age. I orchestrated
successful whole-school events for 'Shakespeare
Day', a month long World Book Day celebration ,
workshops for local state school and philanthropy-
themed Christmas Fair, strengthening ties with the
local community and raising funds for a children's
orphanage.
