Poncho’s music

Poncho is a young boy, he enjoys making music on all of his instruments and singing, especially
Mariachi music. He can be very shy at times and gets nervous when he talks to his classmates
but loves to talk about all of the things that fascinate him. His skin is a soft shade of caramel and
is very different from all of his classmates, he knows that he is the only Mexican in his class, but
he doesn’t mind.

Poncho wants to share his music with his classmates but struggles to make friends, so he never
really has anyone to play music with. He is not sure if his classmates will even like his kind of
music since they most likely have never heard it.

At school, his teacher introduces a new classmate, named Nala, the teacher tells Nala to take a
seat next to Poncho. Nala introduces herself to Poncho and he does the same. Nala asks a bit
about him, he is shy at first but warms up to her, they find out that they have quite a bit in
common, after talking about things that they both like.

Music class was Poncho’s favorite, but not for Nala, Poncho loves playing instrument such as the
violin, guitar, and trumpet! But Nala doesn’t seem to like any. Poncho decides to ask his parents
if Nala can come over to play with his instruments so he can help her find one that she will like,
and to show her how fun it could be.

When Nala arrives Poncho’s family greets her and they head to his music room, she is fascinated
by all the pretty instruments, he lets her try a couple of instruments, but she falls in love with the
deep rich sounds of the cello. They play for a while, and She has a lot of fun playing some songs
with Poncho. They dance around and laugh while Poncho’s brown curly hair bounces with him.
They then play outside, but Nala eventually has to go home, Poncho is happy that he has a new
friend.

At school, Nala encourages Poncho to try and make friends with some of his classmates so they
can have more people to play with, and make a Mariachi group! He is hesitant about it but finally
gets the courage to talk to his two classmates, Alex, and Natalie. Poncho gains a lot of
confidence and talks to them a lot more.

Pg 7
They spend a lot of time talking and playing in music class making new songs together. Poncho
is happier that he can be himself at school after finding new friends.

Pg 8
They all share common interest and have a lot of fun talking to each other. After a while, he asks
them if they want to play at his house, His three friends go over and they greet his family, His
family is happy that he made friends, they eat tamales together, and tell funny stories as well as
play songs together and show his family all the Mariachi songs they can play. They also spend
their time having fun outside, Poncho learns to try not to be as shy.

Poncho really enjoys being with all his friends and playing mariachi music, they make great
memories together and sing while he wears his favorite knitted poncho.
