A Visit to the Zoo
Last weekend, Amy and her family went to the city zoo. It was a sunny day, and Amy was

Amy’s brother, Luke, liked the lions best. He watched them for a long time and took many
pictures. Their father was interested in the tropical birds, while their mother loved watching the
elephants.
They also attended a show about snakes. Amy was a little scared at first, but she found the
show fascinating. She learned that not all snakes are dangerous.
Before leaving, they had ice cream and bought some souvenirs from the gift shop. Amy chose a
stuffed monkey, and Luke got a lion keychain. It was a fun day, and they all hoped to visit the zoo

Christmas is the biggest festival of the year in Britain. Celebrations start on 24 December,
Christmas Eve. It is a family celebration and many of customs centre on children. When they go to bed
on Christmas Eve, children hang up a pillow case or a sack for their presents. When the children are
asleep, Santa Claus climbs down the chimney and puts presents in the sacks that children have left out.
On Christmas morning, some families go to the church. The traditional Christmas dinner consists of
roast turkey and Christmas pudding – a dark, rich mixture of flour, fruit, sugar, nuts and brandy.
December 26, which is called Boxing Day, is also a holiday. On Boxing Day, most people go out to
see friends, watch sport events, go to the theater to see a play or go shopping.
