Varieties of ROM

● PROM- Programmable Read-Only Memory

PROM is a type of ROM that can be programmed with data once, typically by the end user or
manufacturer. Once programmed, the data cannot be changed.

● EPROM (Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory)

EPROM can be reprogrammed. It allows data to be written to and erased from the memory multiple times
using ultraviolet (UV) light. EPROM does not last very long and sunlight can erase the content of
EPROM- used in older computers

● EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory)

EEPROM is similar to EPROM but allows data to be electrically erased and reprogrammed. Unlike
EPROM, EEPROM does not require UV light for erasure. Example USB Flash drive

N.B
When you shop for a computer, buy one that has enough RAM to perform operations properly. If
not your computer may likely run slow.
