Registered Nurse, Regular FT, Edmonton

To Management Team,

My name is Kohley Lucas and I am excited to apply for the registered nursing position offered in
the UHA Emergency Room. I completed my preceptorship in the Leduc Emergency Room
which sparked a passion for this fast-paced environment. During my ER experience I worked
with patients with various presentations such as: Substance withdrawal, alcohol withdrawal,
DKA, suicidal ideation, anemia, various infections, trauma, and appendicitis. I had the
opportunity to work with both adult and pediatric patients. When my preceptorship ended I was
managing the medicine beds of the ER with minimal assistance.

Over the past 6 months, in my role as a Medicine float nurse at the University of Alberta
Hospital, I have had the chance to develop my skills with the Connect Care charting system. I
have also had the opportunity to further advance my nursing and time management skills through
guidance from the nursing educators on staff, and through individual practice.

Throughout my nursing education I have worked in many different clinical environments and
took the opportunity to volunteer in the Philippines in a hospital in Iloilo. This experience
increased my adaptability to various environments with limited resources while maintaining
quality care.

I believe my passion, drive, and desire to learn new skills will enable me to thrive in a team
environment such as the Royal Alexandra Emergency Room. My experience during my
preceptorship in the Leduc ER and my past 6 months experience in Medicine float make me a
strong candidate for the position.
