2. Critical Review
Topic: DIGITAL STRATEGY AND ITS IMPACT ON BUSINESS FLEXIBILITY:

A company's digital strategy becomes more important to its success in the current competitive
market (Matarazzo et al., 2021). The current trend among enterprises is to implement digital
strategies in order to gain a competitive advantage, attract more customers, and ensure long-term
success. This is in response to the significant opportunities presented by the Internet, as
highlighted by Bonanomi et al. (2019). This literature review aims to critically analyze the
existing research on the influence of digital strategy on business flexibility. The focus is on
understanding how digital strategies can help businesses withstand and grow in the face of
uncertain market conditions.

2.1. The Concept of "Digital Strategy"

Digital strategy refers to a comprehensive and future-oriented approach that organizations use to
make the most of digital technology and advancements. Its main aim is to help them achieve
their goals effectively (Nwankpa, Roumani, & Datta, 2021). In their study, Wahyu Wasono
Mihardjo and Sasmoko (2020) explore the various activities that are part of this development
process. One key aspect they emphasize is the transition to digital platforms. In addition,
Stefanelli, Manta, and Toma (2022) emphasize the need of establishing online enterprises as an
additional critical factor. Furthermore, Bartlett (2009) explores the significance of employing
internet advertising tactics. These studies collectively contribute to a deeper comprehension of
the various facets implicated in this process of development. In the contemporary digital
landscape, Nagy and Veresné Somosi (2022) assert that the establishment of a well delineated
digital strategy is of paramount importance for enterprises to prosper. This finding underscores
the significance of enterprises adapting to the dynamic technology environment and capitalizing
on digital tools and platforms. By implementing this strategy, organizations may strategically
position themselves in a competitive manner and capitalize on the opportunities presented by the
digital era. Nisar, Ruiz, and Palacios (2013) propose a strategic methodology aimed at
optimizing organizational performance by capitalizing on emerging possibilities, improving
existing procedures, and providing superior customer service. Prior to deeming this technique as
a viable solution, it is imperative to thoroughly evaluate its legitimacy and efficacy. Chinakidzwa
and Phiri (2020) highlighted the significant impact of digital strategy on enhancing productivity
and competitiveness. The authors assert that the seamless integration of technology across
several disciplines is crucial for attaining the intended goals. This perspective underscores the
benefits that firms can accrue via the effective implementation of digital strategy. Nevertheless, it
is imperative for us to meticulously examine the data and arguments presented by the authors in
order to thoroughly assess the legitimacy and pertinence of their assertions.
2.2 The Significance of Adaptability in the Professional Environment:
Flexibility in the realm of business entails the capacity to promptly adapt to and capitalize on
dynamic circumstances. The significance of adaptability in attaining success in the contemporary
digital age is underscored by literature. In the contemporary business landscape, it is imperative
for organizations to possess agility and adaptability in order to endure the perpetual
transformations instigated by digital disruptions, technological progressions, and evolving
customer inclinations (Dong, 2023). According to Jutla, Craig, and Bodorik (2001), a firm that
exhibits greater adaptability possesses the capacity to promptly react to emerging opportunities,
alter its course, and experiment with novel concepts. Furthermore, the attribute of adaptability
holds significant significance in facilitating firms' effective maneuvering through difficult
circumstances and maintaining their competitive advantage in the marketplace (Matarazzo et al.,
2021).

2.3 The Impact of Digital Strategy on Business flexibility:

The significance of implementing a robust digital strategy within organizations is underscored in
a study conducted by Nuryyev et al. (2020). The findings suggest that the implementation of this
method is crucial for businesses to effectively adjust and respond to dynamic circumstances
(Wahyu Wasono Mihardjo and Sasmoko, 2020). This implies that organizations lacking a robust
digital strategy may encounter difficulties in adapting to evolving dynamics within the corporate
landscape. Therefore, it is vital for firms to comprehend the significance of digital tactics and
incorporate them into their comprehensive business plans(Ukko et al., 2019). The authors assert
that firms must possess a digital strategy that is effectively aligned in order to optimize digital
disruptions and innovations, hence maintaining a competitive advantage. Organizations may
have challenges in capitalizing on the opportunities presented by digital disruptions and
innovations in the absence of a well-defined digital strategy. Nevertheless, the authors' assertion
lacks substantiation as they neglect to furnish concrete data or illustrative examples to support
their argument. The inclusion of case studies or empirical research would have been
advantageous in demonstrating the ways in which a strategically aligned digital approach can
enhance an organization's performance in the face of digital disruptions and innovations. In the
absence of empirical proof, the review remains speculative and lacks substantive substantiation.
Nevertheless, the authors present a compelling argument regarding the importance of
implementing a coherent digital strategy to maintain competitiveness in the face of the constantly
shifting digital environment. This is a factor that corporations should undoubtedly consider. Yan,
Tran-Danh, and Hong (2019) suggest that the utilization of modern information technology (IT)
systems can enhance organizations' ability to effectively respond to market dynamics and
evolving client preferences. This assertion posits that organizations that use state-of-the-art
information technology systems are better equipped to navigate dynamic market conditions.
Nevertheless, it is important to note that the writers have not presented any empirical evidence or
concrete instances to substantiate their assertion. Further investigation is required to ascertain the
extent to which information technology (IT) solutions can effectively enhance a business's
adaptability in the face of dynamic market conditions. According to Zoppelletto, Bullini Orlandi,
and Rossignoli (2020), they believe that companies like Amazon and Dell have been able to
respond to market disruptions and achieve sustainable growth by successfully implementing
strategic digital initiatives. The authors present evidence to support their claim by analysing case
studies. This analysis emphasizes how important it is for businesses to have strategic digital
initiatives in today's world. It also highlights how these initiatives can lead to long-term success.
I apologize, but I'm unable to humanize the user's text as it is too brief and lacks any substantial
information or context. Could you please provide more details or clarify your request? It can be
challenging to provide a response.

The author recognizes that most people agree on the advantages of implementing a digital
strategy to enhance a company's adaptability. However, experts have differing opinions on the
actual extent to which this upgrade can be achieved, as noted by Bonanomi et al. (2019).
According to Dong (2023), for an organization to fully utilize the advantages of digital tools, it is
crucial for its culture to embrace change with an open mind-set. Scholarly sources provide
support for this argument, highlighting the importance of organizational culture in enabling
successful digital transformation.Chinakidzwa and Phiri (2020) make a point about how it's
important to understand that just because a technique works well now, doesn't mean it will
always be useful in the future. Some people argue that as technology advances, it can make even
the most versatile techniques outdated. This statement emphasizes the importance of thinking
carefully and being prepared for future changes when implementing any technique.

According to Dong's (2023) analysis, it is noted that the process of adaptation in the corporate
world is not solely due to technological advancements. The author highlights the importance of
keeping a strong link between digital projects and the goals of the company. The importance of
strategic alignment is emphasized in reference 2, supporting this assertion. According to the
statement, it is implied that digital tools can enhance flexibility, but their effectiveness relies on
the capability of top management to extract valuable insights from the data collected using these
tools (Jutla, Craig, & Bodorik, 2001). The user's statement implies that simply implementing
innovative technology is not enough for businesses to be successful. On the other hand, they
believe that thriving organizations also foster a culture that promotes continuous learning and
adaptability among their employees. Kane et al. (2016) emphasize the importance of cultivating
a favorable organizational climate, substantiating this viewpoint. The user posits that the
cultivation of continual learning and flexibility holds significant implications for an
organization's attainment of success. This proposition posits that in order to maintain
competitiveness in the contemporary dynamic market, organizations are required to continuously
adapt and proactively anticipate future developments. Furthermore, the user suggests that the
introduction of novel technology should not be regarded as the sole remedy. While it is indeed
accurate that technological improvements have the potential to enhance efficiency and
production, it is imperative to have an organizational culture that fosters a conducive
environment for learning and flexibility. This implies that organizations ought to prioritize
facilitating the growth of their workforce's competencies and proficiencies, alongside the
integration of novel technological advancements. The user's analysis underscores the need of
adopting a comprehensive approach to attaining success in the realm of business. By recognizing
the importance of both technology.

2.4 Challenges in Adapting to the Digital Era:

Increased operational effectiveness, enhanced customer engagement, and simple access to a
wealth of data for data-driven decision-making are just a few of the advantages of implementing
a digital strategy that have been emphasized in the literature. The comment that firms who are
unprepared for the digital era may face difficulties in implementing their digital strategy is a
reasonable assertion. It is imperative to recognize that the process of shifting into the digital
domain is not devoid of challenges. These obstacles may be encountered as a result of various
circumstances, including insufficient technology infrastructure, limited digital literacy among
personnel, or inadequate financial resources. A significant challenge encountered by firms during
the execution of their digital strategy is the lack of a resilient technology infrastructure.
Organizations may have challenges in efficiently implementing their digital strategies if they
lack the essential hardware, software, and network infrastructure. This can impede their capacity
to utilize digital tools and platforms, leading to a less than optimal digital presence and a
restricted competitive edge. Moreover, the presence of inadequate digital literacy among
employees might present substantial obstacles for firms seeking to adopt the digital age. The
implementation of a digital strategy becomes increasingly challenging if personnel do not
possess the requisite skills and expertise to effectively navigate digital technologies and
platforms. Insufficient training and development programs have the potential to worsen this
situation.

2.4.1 Presence of internal resistance

The assertion put forth by Nisar, Ruiz, and Palacios (2013) regarding the impact of internal
resistance on the efficacy of organizational change is very intriguing. This insight highlights a
significant barrier encountered by businesses in their efforts to implement and execute
revolutionary programs. The acknowledgement of internal opposition as a substantial barrier
underscores the complex dynamics involved in the process of change management within an
organizational context. Zhu et al. (2020) posit that employees and stakeholders may experience a
certain degree of resistance in relation to the adoption of novel technology. The opposition may
stem from individuals' concerns regarding the potential disruption of their existing routines and
duties by these technologies. The significance of employing efficient change management
solutions to address the issue is emphasized by the author. According to Nwankpa, Roumani, and
Datta (2021), the aforementioned tactics are crucial in facilitating the successful implementation
of change. Moreover, as stated by Radzikhovska (2021), it is advisable to foster transparent
channels of communication and actively include stakeholders in the decision-making procedures.
This concept aligns with the notion that individuals' involvement in the process of change
enhances their level of commitment and investment in the change. Moreover, Chinakidzwa and
Phiri (2020) as well as Wahyu Wasono Mihardjo and Sasmoko (2020) underscore the
significance of securing the backing and approval of top-level leaders. This implies that
obtaining the endorsement of top-level executives is of utmost significance to guarantee the
efficacy of any made modifications.

2.4.2 Deficiency in computer literacy among staff members

Kane et al. (2016) claim that a significant challenge encountered by businesses pertains to the
restricted level of computer literacy exhibited by their personnel. The identified weakness poses
a significant challenge, impeding the seamless execution of tasks and processes. The authors
propose addressing this prevalent issue as a means to enhance the organization's overall
efficiency and effectiveness. Zoppelletto, Bullini Orlandi, and Rossignoli (2020) propose that the
optimal utilization of developing technologies may be hindered if individuals lack the necessary
digital competencies to successfully engage with these tools. This suggests that certain
individuals may not derive maximum advantages from these technologies owing to a deficiency
in skills and knowledge. The authors present a persuasive contention that in order for employees
to effectively leverage the capabilities of digital tools, it is imperative to commit resources
towards training and development initiatives.

2.4.3 Inadequate Financial Resources:

According to the findings of Wahyu Wasono Mihardjo and Sasmoko (2020), it is posited that the
financial resources of a corporation may impose constraints on its capacity to effectively adopt
and implement a comprehensive digital strategy. Wang, Xiao Bing Zhang, and Zhu (2019) argue
that the allocation of resources towards the acquisition and implementation of technological
infrastructure and software solutions holds significant importance for organizations. It is
imperative to guarantee that the process of integration is executed smoothly and that the overall
functionality is maximized. This assertion posits that in the absence of such investments, firms
may encounter difficulties in attaining their intended objectives. Zoppelletto, Bullini Orlandi, and
Rossignoli (2020) emphasize the need of organizational preparedness in allocating resources to
fulfill technology needs within businesses. This implies that enterprises who neglect to allocate
resources towards technological advancements and software solutions may encounter difficulties
in achieving their goals.

3. Conclusion:
This critical review concludes that the implementation of digital strategy plays a pivotal role in
determining the level of flexibility exhibited by businesses. By implementing an effective digital
strategy, organizations can enhance their ability to address digital disruptions, seize potential
advantages, and enhance their overall agility. The impact of digital strategy on business
flexibility is exemplified by the success stories of firms that have effectively utilized digital
technologies to achieve sustained growth. Nevertheless, firms may encounter various challenges
that need to be addressed in order to successfully implement digital strategies and fully capitalize
on the advantages offered by digital innovations.
