Information sheet on Migration Medical Examination for USA Immigrant Visa

Applicants in Nigeria

Dear Visa Applicant,

Do you need a medical examination as part of your visa requirements? Book an appointment for your
medical examination by phone, email or in person and process your medical examination at IOM Migration
Health Assessment Centres (MHAC) in Abuja.

1. Booking of Medical Examination

2. Payment of medical examination fee


Payment should be made before reporting for medical examination to the following bank account:

Payment can be made through bank deposit in any Standard Chartered Bank branch in Nigeria or
through bank transfer. You will be requested to present proof of payment (Deposit Slip or Transfer
Receipt) when reporting for medical examination. All-inclusive medical examination fee (excluding
vaccination) is as follows:

Notes:
 Vaccine requirement will be determined during medical examination and cost of vaccines paid before
vaccines are administered.
 Additional fees and charges may apply if the doctor requests further tests, procedures or examination .

3. What to bring to the medical examination


a) Valid Identification document:

Original passport, or

Others documents e.g. Refugee travel document or Red cross travel document or UN laisses-
passer or Seaman’s book or OAS travel document or Refugee protection claimant document.
b) Vaccination records
c) Proof of payment (Deposit Slip or Transfer Receipt).
d) Previous Chest X-rays, if available
e) Information about any prescription medication that you take currently.
f) Copies of medical reports about any current or previous medical condition(s). Insufficient
information may lead to delays and additional testing.
g) Prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses if you use them to aid visual acuity measurements.

Note: Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian, who can sign and
make decisions on their behalf. Friends and family members without an appointment for an immigration
medical examination are not permitted to accompany you (visa applicant) during your immigration
medical examination.

4. Advice regarding medical examination

a) For your medical examination, you will be asked to take off all your clothes except your underwear
or bra.
b) Children aged 2 to 14 years will undergo a Tuberculine Skin Test (TB test) and the test will be read
after 48 hours ( 2 days)
c) You may request a chaperon to be present during your physical examination, especially if you are to
be examined by a physician of the opposite sex.
d) Do not conceal medical conditions. Deliberate attempts to hide them will be recorded in your
medical report. Additional examination or tests may be required for individuals with significant
medical conditions in order to complete the medical report.

e) Do not conceal pregnancy. Pregnancy will not affect your immigration prospects. X-ray radiation may
harm your baby.
f) Women are advised to avoid undergoing medical examination during menstruation as it may affect
results of the urine test.
g) Postpone or re-schedule your appointment if you or your child is ill with fever.
h) Your medical examination will take place over a one- day period. Please allow approximately 4 hours

for your examination to be completed. The medical report will be ready within 7 working days from
the date of medical examination.
