17. Birds A, B and C are resting on 3 different trees which all lie in a straight line. Bird A is 66.5m
above the ground, and bird C is 52.3m above the ground. The horizontal distance between A and C is
102.3m. Bird B which is resting on a tree between A and C can observe bird A at an angle of
elevation of 42013’ and can also observe C at an angle of elevation of 28015’. Calculate

(i) The horizontal distance between A and B. (4marks)


(ii) the height from the ground at which B is resting (3marks)
(iii) The angle of depression of Bird B to Bird A when Bird B flies 50.5 metres vertically
above the point it was originally. (3 marks)

18. The figure shows a hollow closed vessel


consisting of a cylinder fitted to a cone. The
cylinder has internal diameter of 80cm and height 48
40cm. The base diameter and the height of the 64
