8. In Blessed Church Choir the ratio of males to females is 2:3. On one Sunday service ten male
members were absent and six new female members joined the choir as guests for the day. If on this
day the ratio of males to females was 1:3, how many regular members does the choir have?

11. The sum of digits in a two digit number is 16. When the number is subtracted from the number

15. In the figure below, RQP is an arc of a circle centre O. Line TPS is a tangent to the circle at P.
Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, locate the centre O of the circle and hence complete the
circle. Construct an equilateral triangle ABC to inscribe the circle given that points B and C are on
the line TS. (4 marks)

16. In a regular polygon the sum of the interior angles is 24 times the size of one exterior angle.
Determine the number of sides in the polygon. (3 marks)

17. A businessman bought x bags of maize at a cost of shs. 960 per bag. He spent shs. 85 per bag on
transport. He later sold the maize at shs. 39 per tin making a profit of shs. 515 per bag.
(i) Calculate the number of tins in one bag (3 marks)

(ii) If the businessman made total sales of shs. 29 640. How many bags had he sold? (2 marks)

(iii) The businessman later used the total sales to buy more maize at shs.926.25 per bag. He sold
half the bags of the maize to millers at the rate of shs.1390 per bag and retailed the remaining at his
stall to consumers at sh.39 per tin.Calculate his percentage profit. (5
marks)

18. A square floor is fitted with identical rectangular tiles. The length of the floor is 9.6 m. The
perimeter of each of the tiles is 220 cm. Each row (tile lengthwise) carries 20 less tiles than each

column (tiles breadthwise). Taking to represent the width of the tile,

(a) Write the expression in the number of tiles on both row and column. (2 marks)

(b) Calculate the dimensions of the tiles. (4 marks)

(c) Find the number of tiles needed to cover the whole floor of the room. (1 mark)

(d) Find the cost of fitting, if the tiles are sold in dozen at sh 1 500 per dozen and the labour cost is
sh300. (2 marks)

(c) Draw triangle A ' ' B' ' C ' ' the image of A ' B' C ' after a reflection in the line x=−1 (2 marks)
(d) Draw triangle A ' ' ' B ' ' ' C ' ' ' the image of A ' ' B' ' C ' ' after a positive quarter turn about (0 , 0)
(e) (i) Describe the transformation that maps A ' B' C ' onto A ' ' ' B ' ' ' C ' ' ' (2 marks)

20. Five points P, Q, R, V and T represent positions on a compound. Point Q is 208m directly South of
P. R is 304m and S 48 0 E from P and is due East of Q. Given that T is 268m and S 670 W from Q and
point V is 200m directly South of R.
(a) Using a scale of 1 cm represents 40m, draw a scale diagram showing the relative positions of P, Q,
R, V and T. (4 marks)

(b) Using the scale diagram, determine


(i) The distance and bearing of point T from V (2 marks)

21. Two factories A and B produce both chocolate bars and éclairs. In factoryA it costs Shs. c and Shs. e
to produce 1 kg of chocolate bars and éclairs respectively. The cost of producing 1 kg of chocolate
bars and 1 kg of éclairs in factory B increases cost of éclairs of A by the ratio 6:5 and reduce cost of
chocolate of A by the ratio 4:5 respectively.
(a) Given that it costs Shs. 460,000 to produce 1 tonne of chocolate bars and 800kg of éclairs in factory
A and Shs.534, 000 to produce the same quantities in factory B form two simplified simultaneous
equations showing this information. (2 marks)

(b) Use matrix method to find the cost of producing 500 kg of chocolate bars and 1500 kg of éclairs in
factory A. (5 marks)

(c) Use matrix method to find the cost of producing 1100kg of chocolate bars and 1150kg of éclairs in
factory B. (3 marks)

22. Kamur hardware constructed tank A to hold rain water. The tank has a square base of 9.5 m and a
vertical side of 4m.
a. What volume of water was collected using the tank if it was filled after the rain? (2 marks)

b. The owner realized that the amount of water collected was not enough. He intended to construct
a tank so as to contain 500m3 of rain water after the harvest. He decided to construct another
similar tank B. What must be the dimensions of the new tank if the area of the sheet metal to be
used in its construction is to be minimum to save on the cost? (5 marks)

c) The hardware sold the harvested rain water at Khs. 5 per 20 litre container. Calculate the loss in
terms of money the hardware incurred when using tank A to harvest the rain water than tank B.

23. The figure below shows a composite solid with a frustum, a cuboid and a right pyramid. If the
cuboid is removed, the frustum and the small pyramid when joined will make a bigger right
pyramid. The smaller square-based pyramid has a slant height of 4cm. The dimensions of the bottom
and top squares are 5 cm and 2cm respectively.
Given that the volume of the cuboid and the volume of the small pyramid are equal,
a. Calculate the height of the whole solid. (7marks)
b. Determine the angle between XY and ZY (3 marks)
