1. GENERAL INFORMATION

USB/RS485 converter is used to connect controllers network to the USB


computer port with the supervisor software. The device allows convert USB to
RS485/RS422 protocol by creating virtual COM port. The converter has overvolt-
age protection. The USB port is a cable with a USB connector and RS-485 port
include DB9-M connector. DB9-M connector include small module with screws for
connection twisted pairs cables.

Technical parameters of the converter:

• Compatible with USB 2.0.


• Electrical interface:
- USB port - USB cable with type A
- RS485/RS422 port in the form of slots plus DB9-M module with terminals
• Level of protection against power surges - 15KV ESD
• Modes: half-duplex or duplex asynchronous
• Optical indicators work:
- Red LED (RXD) signal reception
- green LED (TXD) to send signals
• Recommended cable for bus lines:
- unshielded twisted pair - two pairs
- shielded twisted pair - one pair
• Baud rate on port 485 - to 115.2 Kbps, up to 1800 m
• Dimensions: 70 x 35 x 18 mm
• Power - from USB
• Power consumption: static - 80 mA, -150 mA dynamically

Installing the driver software

Equipped with a converter CD include software that installs the files neces-
sary for the proper control of the converter.
The device firmware is designed to work with Windows 2000/XP platforms,
Server 2003/2008, Windows 7 / Vista.

To install the software:


• Connect converter to the USB port on your computer
• When installer window appears select Install from the CD driver and indicate
the location of files

After installation, a message appears informed that the device is ready to work.

After connect and install the converter, a virtual COM port will be create. So you
should open the Device Manager and check which port number is assigned. This
will need to choose in the network configuration.
If the assigned COM port number will be extended beyond the range available in
the KaDe software is you can change it to another in the Advanced port proper-
ties menu.
