CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is a campaign launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi as a
nationwide cleanliness campaign. It is implemented to fulfill the vision and mission of clean
India one day. It was launched especially on the birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi Ashe
always dreamed and was very keen to make this country a clean country. He had tried for clean
India during his time by motivating people through his campaigns and slogans however it was
only partially successful because of the limited involvement of the people of India. But after so
many years, Swachh Bharat Mission was again started by the Government of India to make the
dream of clean India come true till 150th birth anniversary of the Mahatma Gandhi. It was started
in 2014 on 2nd of October on the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It is a big
challenge for all the citizens of India. It is only possible if each and every person living in India
would understand this campaign, their own responsibility and try to join hands together to make
it a successful mission.
On January 26, 2022, we set off from Mijar, a little village of Moodubidire. The Swachh Bharat
Abhiyan campaign was scheduled to last twelve days. Every day for minimum 10 hours from
morning 8am to 6pm evening the cleaning activity was arranged. We held an inauguration
ceremony on the first day in Tenka Mijar Grama Panchayath which was inaugurated by our
HOD Prof. Harish Kunder, before we started. Then we started cleaning from our college to Mijar
Gram Panchayath, stopping at nearby surroundings along the route. We had been provided with
gloves and trash bags for disposing and separating the trash accordingly. Following days, we
covered almost all the nearby areas of Mijar. After cleaning an awareness campaign was
conducted.
We've already devised a strategy to address this problem, so we've created a brochure that
outlines all of the measures people can take to clean surroundings and separate the waste. In
homes, communities, health care institutions, schools, and other public places, consistent was
hand waste management practices serve as barriers to human-to-human transmission of the
COVID-19 virus. We spread the awareness of keeping the surroundings clean and which can
help us protecting from various diseases.
CHAPTER 2
HISTORY
The campaign of clean India movement is the biggest step taken ever as a cleanliness drive till
date. On the day of the launch of campaign around 3 million government employees including
students from schools and colleges had participated in the event to make it popularize globally
and make common public aware about it. This event was organized at Rashtra Pati Bhawan on
2nd of October in 2014 in the presence of 1500 people. This event was flagged off by the Former
President, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, had nominated the name of
nine famous personalities from business industries, sports and Bollywood to drive the clean
India campaign. He also had requested from all the nine personalities to invite another nine
personalities individually and requested them to continue the chain of nine people and take this
campaign to every Indian living in any corner of the country.
Narendra Modi also said that this campaign should be taken as a big challenge and should pass
the request to invite other nine people individually (just like branching of tree) so that this vision
of cleanliness may be completed till 2019 and India can become a clean country forever in the
history. The campaign also emphasizes waste segregation and management, behavioral change
through awareness programs, and large-scale cleanliness drives involving communities,
schools, and institutions. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan addresses both rural and urban sanitation
issues, leveraging technology for monitoring progress. Despite challenges, the movement has
garnered widespread support and has made significant strides in improving sanitation
infrastructure and fostering a culture of cleanliness nationwide. The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
has gained widespread support from various sections of society, including government officials,
celebrities, and common citizens. The campaign has made significant strides in improving
sanitation infrastructure, increasing toilet coverage, and fostering a culture of cleanliness. While
challenges still exist, the movement has sparked a nationwide conversation on the importance
of sanitation and hygiene, contributing to the overall well-being of the population.
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan has the ambitious goal of making India open defecation-free,
ensuring proper waste management, and promoting overall cleanliness and hygiene. The
campaign emphasizes the construction of toilets, especially in rural areas, to eliminate open
defecation and improve sanitation conditions.
CHAPTER 3
OBJECTIVE
The mission's goal is to visit both urban and rural places so that this nation can be
portrayed to the rest of the world as an ideal nation. The mission has specific objectives
including the eradication of manual scavenging, the total disposal and recycling of solid
and liquid wastes, the elimination of open defecation, and the conversion of unsanitary
toilets into pour flush toilets.
Waste Management: The campaign addresses the issue of improper waste disposal by
promoting effective waste management practices. This includes waste segregation at the
source, proper disposal, and recycling initiatives to reduce environmental pollution.
Behavioral Change: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan aims to bring about a behavioral shift in
individuals and communities by creating awareness about the importance of cleanliness
and hygiene. The campaign encourages people to take responsibility for maintaining
cleanliness in their surroundings.
Promoting Cleanliness in Public Spaces: The initiative involves cleanliness drives and
activities to keep public spaces, streets, and educational institutions clean. This includes
mass cleaning campaigns where citizens actively participate in keeping their
communities tidy.
Rural and Urban Sanitation: Swachh Bharat Abhiyan addresses sanitation issues in both
rural and urban areas. In rural regions, the emphasis is on eradicating open defecation,
while in urban areas, the focus extends to waste management and maintaining

CHAPTER 6
CONCLUSION
After all the activities conducted in 12 days in brought a sense of notion among students relating
how important is cleanliness for the environment in which we reside. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
was mission / initiative takes up by the PM of India, Mr. Narendra Modi. This mission was to
clean India and remove its dirt and dust. India at that time became very much unhygienic and
garbage was thrown here and there by people. So, this mission was a need for this country. Its
conclusion was this that - due to this people understood the importance of hygiene. Now it’s
quite better and I hope that it will become much better in the coming days. It’s really a good
theme and now we can see so many posters and pamphlets for this. Awareness campaigns are
taking place and people are understanding its importance.
India is under developing country. Neat and clean society is the basic need of a developed
country, that's why our current PM Shri Narendra Modi initiated swatch Bharat Abhiyan back
in 2016. This initiative has already affected a lot. The cleanliness and the benefits of cleanliness
are becoming more important among the citizens in a national scale. We can hopefully say that
we are stepping towards a clean India in the near future for this Swachh Bharat initiative.
2. People should use the SBA app to complain or inform about any garbage or litter
in surrounding areas.
3. Heavy fine should be demanded from the people who litter or spit in public areas.
If these points are followed by people, then there might be ‘Acche Din’ very soon.
