Apple Bans Send Me to Heaven

Apple has officially confirmed that it is going to ban an application that has become one of the most
infamous and controversial in the history of the App Store. Google, on the other hand,
(1)________________ (provide) the application free of charge for three months now. The name of the
application is Send Me to Heaven and it (2)________________ (already / achieve) a status that is sitting
on the border between idiotic and genius ― it’s up to you to figure out which side of the fence you and
your phone will fall on.

The application works by challenging players to throw their phones into the air as high as they can. This
(3)________________ (activate) the phone’s sensors to monitor and record exactly how high the user
(4)________________ (throw) it. The idea is to see who has the arms and the courage to throw a
precious smart phone high in the air and risk being disconnected from Facebook for a day or two when
it explodes on the ground. At the moment, somewhere in the Western world, some teenagers
(5)________________ (challenge) their friends to chuck* their phones as high as they can.

The game (6)________________ (reject) by Apple as they thought it was guilty of “encouraging
behavior that could result in damage to the user’s device.” Personally, I feel that this is the kind of game
that should be compulsory on every single mobile phone in the world today so that we can measure just
how stupid the general population really is. Youngsters like performing crazy stunts, but unfortunately
they (7)________________ (always / consider) the consequences.

Google, on the other hand, seems not to share Apple’s concern. They either don’t see any harm in the
game as a whole or couldn’t care less whether youngsters destroy their phones and have to buy new
ones. After all, it’s not really Google’s problem to deal with. Besides, the game
(8)________________ (download) by thousands of users as soon as it was introduced.

Although the game is obviously risky and foolish to play, Send Me to Heaven
(9)________________ (receive) many positive user ratings this month. Out of 427 ratings, five-star
ratings (10)________________ (be) in majority. Five-star is the highest score users can give an
application on Google Play Store.

The brain behind Send Me to Heaven is a development company called Carrot Pop, which openly states
that the contests are going to be getting bigger and better all the time, (1)________________ the users
should be ready for these exciting challenges.

In the typical 21st century health and safety conscious world, there is of course a disclaimer* that all
players must read and agree to (2)________________ they are allowed to play. This clearly states that
everyone taking part does so “entirely at their own risk.” There are also several instructions like: “Be
careful not to injure yourself or others. Always be aware that there is enough space above you
(3)________________ around you. Do some training to learn the right skills to get the best results.” The
company has put in such a disclaimer so that it won’t be responsible for any and all harm to users or
phones (4)________________ the users get their phones damaged or broken.
(5)________________, users who have broken or damaged their phones while playing the game will
not be given any money by the creators of the game.

The game's creator Petr Svarovsky describes the game as quite risky, (6)________________ he claims
that it is really fun despite the risk of damaging your phone. When he is asked why people would want
to do such a stupid thing and what the purpose of knowingly risking your phone is, he just says that the
game is so entertaining that a lot of people will willingly take the risk. Svarovsky seems to be surprised
by these questions (7)________________ he believes having fun is much more important than the value
of the phone. Although the creator of the game is quite confident about his product, the users need to be
brave enough to try and play the game first. (8)________________ throwing their phones high in the
air, they will be able to test how fun the game is.

(9)________________ one day regional and national phone-chucking contests are ever held, Google
will probably refuse to be a part of them. (10)________________, they may later change their minds
and decide to support the game, depending on its popularity.

* disclaimer: a statement that denies responsibility
