CYCLONE YAKU AND THE SIMPLE PRESENT

I.- READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT WRITE THE MEANING OF THE FOLLOWING WORDS .

Regarding Cyclone Yaku, which is causing various losses on the Peruvian coast, in
this note we review the definition of the meteorological event, its causes and main
effects. Because of this event, it is believed that there will be more intense rains in
Lima, with an intensity comparable to what happened in 1970: 10 times stronger than
what usually happens.
According to the World Meteorological Organization, “A tropical cyclone is a rapidly
rotating storm that originates in the oceans, from where it extracts the energy
necessary to develop. It has a center of low pressure and clouds that spiral toward the
wall around the "eye," the central part of the system where there are no clouds and
generally calm weather conditions. Its diameter is usually about 200 to 500 km, but
can reach 1000 km. Tropical cyclones generate very violent winds, torrential rains,
high waves and, in some cases, very destructive storm surges and coastal flooding.
