1994: Netscape is formed by Marc Andreessen and Jim Clark


– April 4: Mosaic Communication Corporation
– Oct 13: Mosaic Netscape 0.9 Released
– Nov 14: Netscape Communication
– Dec 15: Netscape 1.0 Released

1995 Internet Explorer


– Internet 1.0 (Aug 24), Internet Explorer 2.0 (Nov 27) release.
– The First Browser War
– Microsoft answers the release of Netscape Navigator
with its web browser, called Internet Explorer, starting off the first browser for
competitive offerings.

1996 Opera is Released to the Public


– it was released on Dec 1, 1996, and therefore the first public release of the Opera
Browser was version 2.12.

1998 Mozilla Is Formed


– Jan 22, 1998 Netscape Communication Corporation starts the open-source
Mozilla project to develop the next generation of browsers.
Internet Explorer 5 released.
2002 IE Usage Reaches Dominating Proportions

– The end of the First Browser War

2003 Apple’s Safari Makes Its Debut

– Apple releases Safari beta on January its final version is Mac OS X v10.3 default
browser.

2004 Firefox 1.0 Released and 2nd Browser War

– Firefox 1.0 was released on Nov 9, 2004 and with a huge following of early
adopters via their beta releases.

2006 Internet Explorer 7 Is Released

– It had been released in October 2006 by Microsoft Corp, adopting some features
from its open-source competition (Firefox) like tabbed document interface and anti-
phishing protection.

2008 Google Chrome, Browser War Intensifies

– Google launches its web browser, entering into the browser battles in market
share, lightweight, fast, and surprisingly stable as compared to early releases of
other web browsers, the second browser war gains another strong competitor.
