Introduction
Keeping the oil in the oil bath filter as clean
as possible is essential to optimize the
performance of the filter. Therefore, a new
cleaning device has been developed to
improve the oil cleaning, extending the oil
lifetime and reduce the oil consumption.

Introduction
Keeping the oil in the oil bath filter as clean as possible is essential to optimize the
performance of the filter. A cleaner oil will minimize the risk of filter panels getting clogged
(increase in back pressure) and increase the dust catching capacity to extend dry filter
lifetime and to avoid problems with turbochargers and engines due to particles in the
intake air.

Therefore, as a part of the continuous improvement concept for intake air quality,
Wärtsilä can offer the Viscokleen as a spare part.

The Viscokleen is a compact and mobile cleaning unit developed to remove the particles
from of the oil used in AAF MultiDuty oil bath filters.

The main advantage using the Viscokleen is:

· The performance of the oil bath filter is optimized when the oil is cleaner
· Decrease in oil consumption
· Extends the oil lifetime
· Cleaner process when removing sludge from the oil bath filters
· Can be used while the oil bath filter is in normal operation (the DD panels are
rotated according to timer) and engines operated as normal.

Instructions
The cleaning frequency to be optimized according to dust load and operating profile.
The Viscokleen works with a closed loop system where the oil is taken from the bottom
of the MultiDuty oil bath tank, pumped thru the centrifugal filter in the cleaning unit and
back to the oil bath tank. Each one-hour cleaning cycle can remove up to 1.2 kg of
sludge.

Figure 3, Viscokleen operation steps. The unit takes dirty oil from the air filter, clean it
and return the cleaned oil. The dirt is concentrated within the separator rotor bowl and
can be easily removed from the system.

To optimize the operation of the cleaning unit, it is recommended to have a spare rotor
for the centrifugal filter in stock, to be able to do a quick replacement of the rotor and
start a new cleaning cycle. The used rotor can be emptied of the compacted dust and
cleaned during the started cleaning cycle.
The Viscokleen unit can be used on most of the MultiDuty filter models. For models with
access to the oil tank on the back of the filter housing, check that the available space is
according to Figure 4 before ordering.

A Viscotest measurement kit is available that can be used together with the Viscokleen
unit. This kit gives the user the possibility to measure the dust quantity in the oil, if there
is a need for oil cleaning and how many one-hour cleaning cycles is needed to get the
oil cleaned.

The measurement kit contains of a sensor for dust concentration measurement, a

battery, led display and a cleaning cycle table for all MultiDuty filter sizes.
