Term for various research methods use
To describe ,interpret and understand
Texts.all kind of information can be
Gleand from a text-from it's literal
Meaning to the subtext,symbolism
and values it reveals.
How we analyse text?
1)choose an extract from the text and
the select a quotation from it which
illustratethe point you want to make.
2)ask yourself how you quotation
illustrates character/theme/context.
3)look in close detail at specific wordsor
phrases to see what effect they have.

There are four types of text analy8,


rhetorical criticism,content analysis,
interaction analysis, performance
studies.
Identifying and selecting information :-
•When writing a text analysis you
cannot comment on everything at the
same time.you will need to be
selective.
Using quotations:-
A vital element in analysing effectively
is how you quote directly from a source
text .
The key points to remember are:-
•only quote what is necessary to
support the point you make.
•use quotation marks/inverted commas
for any words or phrases taken directly
from the source text.
Analysis and interpretation:-
•These skills do not always go together
but close analysis -looking at what a
word or phrase suggests or
conveys-often leads the interpretation
as looking beyond the specific details to
draw conclusions.
•Also remember, interpretation is your
own idea of what the writer is trying to
say or conveys.This will involves the
skills of the inference and expressing
these ideas in your own words.
Pu�ing your analysis into words:-
•when writing a commentary,you will
need to very precise about the words
and phrases you choose to analyse a
text.however,you should write your
analyse in a clear,fluent way.you will
need to select and use quotations
effectively,and use an appropriate
evaluative lexsis to express your ideas.
