B. ANSWER ANY NINE QUESTIONS: [2x9=18]


1. Two point charges + q and -2q are placed at the vertices ‘B’ and ‘C’ of an equilateral triangle
ABC of side as given in the figure. Obtain the expression for (i) the magnitude and (ii) the direction
of the resultant electric field at the vertex A due to these two charges.
2. For a charged spherical shell write the formula for E (i) at a distance r from the centre of the
shell (ii) on the surface (or just outside the shell) (iii) inside the surface, give reason. Represent it
on a graph.

5. Three capacitors C1,C2, and C3 are connected in parallel. Derive and expression for their
equivalent capacitance.
6. You are provided with 8μF capacitors. Show with the help of a diagram how you will arrange
minimum number of them to get a resultant capacitance of 20 μF.
7. In the given figure, the capacitors C1, C3, C4, C5 have a capacitance 4µF each. If the capacitor
C2 has a capacitance 10µF, then effective capacitance between A and B will be:

8. Derive the expression for ohms law in vector form.


9. Explain in brief how you will use a potentiometer to compare the emf of two primary cells.
10. Derive an expression for current supplied by ‘n’ number of cells combined in series. Each cell
having emf ‘E’ has a small internal resistance of ‘r’ and an external resistance ‘R’ is connected in
series with it.

1. Two point charges q1 = +0.2 C and q2 = +0.4 C are placed 0.1 m apart. Calculate the electric
field at:
(a) the mid-point between the charges and
(b) at a point on the line joining q1 and q2 such that it is 0.05 m from q2 and 0.15 m away from
q 1.
