they talk about who else should be killed along with
Caesar.

him and demands the reason for his unusual behaviour.

late at night whose faces were all covered.
● Portia leaves as Ligarius, another conspirator comes to
meet Brutus.
Summary
Brutus lies awake at night in his Orchard, thinking about the
future of Rome. He tries to justify killing Caesar, saying that
although Caesar seems honourable now, he may become
corrupted by power. Brutus reads a letter that accuses him of not
taking action to prevent corruption in Rome.
Cassius and the conspirators visit, and Brutus agrees to kill
Caesar. When Decius Brutus asks if they should kill anyone else
besides Caesar, Cassius suggests Mark Antony, but Brutus
thinks that's a bad idea for both moral and practical reasons. The
others follow his lead. Decius Brutus volunteers to make sure
Caesar makes it to the Capitol the next day, and then the
conspirators all leave.
Brutus' wife Portia comes in and demands to know what Brutus
has been keeping from her. Brutus praises her but says he can't
tell her just yet, so she departs. The sick Caius Ligarius enters,
and when Brutus tells him of the plot against Caesar, he
immediately agrees to join and resolves to be well again.

Summary:
The scene begins with Caesar worried about his wife’s dream.
Calpurnia dreamt about Caesar’s death thrice and insisted he
stay home rather than go to the senate. Calpurnia also talks
about the mysterious or unusual things that the watchmen have
noticed. They included a lioness giving birth to her cubs in the
middle of the street, graves opened up to give out the dead bodies
, she says that there was a battle that took place in the clouds
among the fiery fierce-looking men and it was a proper battle
with horse cries from the battle and blood drizzling on the
Capitol, she also says that the watchmen heard ghosts shrieking
and screaming. Caesar sends his servants to the priests to offer
sacrifice about the same after the thorough examination of the
internal organs of the sacrificial beast by the priests it is found
that the beast is devoid of a heart which is considered as a bad
omen. Hence the priests advised Caesar not to step out of the
house. However, he doesn’t take it seriously and has his own
theory for it. After a long argument finally, he agrees to stay home
to calm down Calpurnia. Later, Decius Brutus arrives and Caesar
tells him he will not come to the senate. When asked for the
reason, Caesar tells him the reason out of his love and trust for
Decius Brutus. He tells him that his wife had a dream in which
there was a statue of Caesar with a hundred spouts on it. She
has seen some strong Roman men smiling and bathing their
hands in the blood of Caesar. Thus she is worried that something
bad might happen to Caesar. After listening to Caesar, Decius
Brutus says that Calpurnia misunderstood the dream and has
misinterpreted it.

He says that the dream is all about the good fortune of Caesar is
going to acquire. He wrongly interprets the dream to take Caesar
to the Senate as he has to keep his promise made to the other
conspirators. He interprets the dream that once Caesar became
the king, the people of Rome would all acquire their strength and
courage from Caesar. This was symbolized in the dream as
Caesar’s statue with spouts on it and the people of Rome sucking
blood. He says that Caesar will revive the strength and courage of
the people of Rome. He also tells Caesar that people will crowd
around Caesar and collect his articles to keep them as mementos
for future generations which is symbolised as people bathing
their hands in the blood of Caesar.
Caesar is satisfied with Decius Brutus’ interpretation of the
dream. Decius Brutus also tells Caesar that the senators have
decided to present him with the crown that day and if he fails to
be present at the senate they will change their decision and
might not crown him. He also told Caesar that the senators might
mock him. After listening to all this, Caesar makes up his mind
to go to the senate and taunts his wife for misinterpreting the
dream.
Later, other conspirators arrive at Caesar’s place followed by
Mark Antony. Caesar thinks that they have come to fetch him to
the senate with honour with knowing their actual motive. He
thanks them and invites them to have wine with him. After
having wine with the conspirators, Caesar leaves for the senate
along with them.
