BARCODE PROBLEM
Explaining Concepts Through meaningful Images.

The Universal Product Code (Barcode) is one of the most widely used marks in the world appearing on packaged
foods, magazines, books, records, and other mass-produced products. Thus, it is a symbol of consumerism
throughout the world. Because the image is seen so frequently, it is almost always taken for granted and not really
seen at all.

For this assignment you need to redesign this mark (barcode) by interpreting it as a personal, political, or social
statement. Create 10 preliminary sketches by using a pencil. (30 minutes sketch time)
When all of the sketches are completed execute 5 of them by using digital vector graphics (Adobe Illustrator
For digital executions, each composition should be on a separate A4 artboard) (1hour 30 minutes execution time)

You can only use the barcode file which was given to you on Bilgi Learn. Do not use any other barcode image.
Every object/image you create must be vector graphics. Do not insert raster images in to your assignment.
You have to draw everything by yourself. Do not use free vector graphics that can be found online.
Please number your sketches and your digital designs. You need to indicate which sketch you used to create your
final design.

Please write down a concept for each sketch. Indicate that particular concept in your final design. If you don’t I
can’t evaluate your design.
You will be graded for your craftsmanship (graphic execution and formalist concerns) and conceptual ideas.
(Grading sample scale: poor, sufficient, good, excellent)

Deadline (for vector graphics): 21.03.2021 end of class - Upload to Bilgi Learn only.

What to Upload?

Vector Graphics: 1 pdf file and 1 vector graphics file. Do not Upload multiple pdf files.
