How Book Bans Are Affecting Schools and Libraries

I do not understand why books are even being banned in the first place. Parents “contested

material they deemed inappropriate for their students”(Coleman 1). But why do they not just let

their child not grab that book. Some of those books might be inappropriate for their child’s

mindset but for another child it might be appropriate for them and their age. I say their age as

well because students are going to school in elementary with five year olds and also eleven year

olds. So obviously they are going to have a difference in maturity level. But most five year olds

can not read that well so there are also high school students. Having kids from fourteen up to

now adults up to eighteen. So there is definitely going to be a maturity difference there with just

turning into a teen and just turning into an adult. So some of the students will be able to read

certain books and be fine while other students may find it inappropriate because of their maturity

difference. But they should not be punished because they have a different maturity level than

their lower classman so the lower grade students should just take responsibility and only read

what they think is appropriate for themself.

I guess I can kind of understand school book banning but public library book banning

too?!? The article even states “the county does not fund the library”(Coleman 2). So if it does not
find the library how does it have the right to take part of it away. Especially the main part, the

books.
