SYSTEMS
ASSESSMENT 3A

0
Introduction
In this era of information and communication technology, data processing and automation of
business process has become a key cornerstone for success and improvement of commercial
purpose or social objectives for many companies in the world. Moreover, in the last decade
System Application and Product in Processing (SAP), Oracle, and Microsoft are facing a
ferocious competition to gobble up, maintain and control the share of enterprise application
market (ERP). On this assessment we are going to discuss the differences between the latest
solutions offered by SAP S/4HANA Public vs Private edition, their risks (Svensson et al.
2021), and the potential benefits that organisations might receive from implementing SAP.
We decided to focus on SAP because it leads on-premise ERP market with 14% of share.
(Bloomberg Intelligence, 2013)
It is also remarkable to mention that SAP will no longer provide mainstream maintenance and
support for their older versions after December 2027 (Apps e connect, 2015). Therefore, this
is a deadline for their customers to migrate and upgrade their current systems to SAP S/4

HANA. On this assessment we are going to discuss and explain the versions of the software
and hopefully the lector will have a better understanding of the capabilities and functionality

Outline of body content
1. SAP Business One vs Oracle Fusion ERP (On-premise or private edition)
Advantages:
The software can help manage products from inventory to supply chain to pricing and
can aid in the HR department with employee resources, retention and training.
However, SAP’s risk management tools can still help your business identify and better
understand risk factors and prevent cash leakage as well as enforce policies. (Forbes,
2024)

Disadvantages:
Although both SAP and Oracle claim to have solutions for all sizes of businesses
seeking growth, the price tag may be prohibitive if not impossible for a smaller or
medium-sized company. For rapidly expanding businesses with lots of moving parts,
including procurement, supply chain and multiple locations, the software is worth the
money. (Forbes, 2024)

2. SAP S/4 HANA Cloud ERP – (Hosted ERP System)

On 2020, more than half organisations selected cloud ERP software over on-premise ERP.
(Panorama consulting group report, 2020). Nowadays, customer seek faster delivery of
product and services, and the option to work virtually among many environments or business
process such as: Finance, Sales and Distribution, Material Management, Supply Chain
Management, among others.
SAP S/4 HANA, it’s a SaaS ERP solution that normally is hosted on the customer’s cloud
platform and managed by their IT team. It enables real-time data insights, faster access to
data and its better integrated rather than ECC due its memory database. The monthly license
subscription it is on the range of USD$20.000 and US$100.000 significantly lower than On-
Premise solution where the basic license is between USD$100.000 and US$1.000.000 (ERP
Research, 2023)
3. SAP Business Technology Platform (Cloud ERP System - public edition)
In a single, integrated environment, SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP)
combines data and analytics, integration, AI capabilities, and application development and
automation. (SAP, 2024)
Create individualized experiences for all business processes, develop apps, analytics, and
connections more quickly, and safely execute mission-critical innovation on the infrastructure
of key cloud providers that SAP completely manages.
