INTRODUCTION
This chapter presents the background of the study, the statement of the problem,
the objectives of the study, the significance of the study, the scope and delimitation, the
has been a major problem in a lot of countries around the world.” (Hall,1997;
Hooks,1996; Kivel,2002; Robino, Lindsey & Terrel, 2002.). Bullying is an aggressive act

the time that bullying incidents happen too frequently among the Grade 7 students of
our school. Since SAAMI is a catholic school, we found the purpose of conducting our
dangerous since it affects the student’s mental health and could cause some major
mental health issues. Having mental health issues during the adolescence stage which
the Grade 7 students are facing is a real struggle since they are still maturing and
cannot think wisely. Not many young teens have enough mental capacity to cope and
“There is no one reason why a child may become a bully, but environmental
factors can lead to the development of bullying behaviors. Because this behavior is
learned and it can also be unlearned” (Sarazen, 2002). It states that in most cases,
bullying is not done by choice, but because of the influence of the environment. Most of
the time, not all bullies are bad, most of them are also struggling with mental health
issues and some may have possibly been bullied in their past. When peace was not an
option for them, the only coping mechanism that was present in their mind was to hurt
others.
The victims of bullying became highly affected to the point where the bullying
issue became present in their homes. Most parents who experience bullying of their
children expect that the discipline and awareness of the principal and teachers have a
positive effect on the situation. It does not end that well most of the time. The situation
will only worsen and the relationship between the family and the school has become
about the effects of bullying on the mental health of grade 7 students. To manage and
assess the total number of grade 7 students of SAAMI who experience bullying. Given
that it is a catholic school, the researchers found the purpose and opportunity to
conduct this research. In this generation, the number of cases of bullying is increasing
and many adolescents are struggling with how to cope with the suffering from the
effects of bullying that distracts them and negatively influences their mental health.
This study aims to manage and assess the total number of grade 7 students of
Specifically, the goal of this study is to give answers to the following problems:
1. What is the exact population of grade 7 students having mental health issues?
2. What is the total number of grade 7 students who experienced bullying based on
their gender?
3. How does the grade 7 students manage the effects of bullying on their mental
health?
Objectives of the Study
To be exact, this study aims to spread awareness about the effects of bullying on
the mental health of students. Also, the goal of this study is not only to help the
students, but also the teachers, parents, guardians, and future researchers to advise
and guide students who are experiencing bullying and also to make bullying incidents
lesser.

on their gender.
valuable information on assessing the number of students who experience bullying and
help them manage the effects on their mental health. Moreover, it will inform the readers
and recipients of this study whether bullying is the significant cause of grade 7 students'
managing their mental health when dealing with bullying. The Grade 7 students will be
able to freely express themselves whenever they open up about their experiences with
bullying.
TEACHERS: This study will help the Grade 7 advisers and subject teachers
in dealing with their students who are unaware of the effects of bullying on their mental
health. Also, it helps the teachers manage and discipline their students who bully each
other with awareness about the impact on how they deal with the situation.
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS: This study will help parents and guardians to
be aware of the cause of the sudden changes in their children’s behavior and attitude.
The parents and guardians will help improve the interactions between the parents and
a source of information regarding to the topic about assessing the total number of grade
7 students with bullying experience and their management for the effects of bullying on
their mental health. This could help the future researchers to have a deeper
understanding about the effects of bullying towards the mental health of adolescence.

Delimitation
This study will be conducted at San Andres Academy of Maramag Inc. among
grade 7 students. We, researchers, chose to focus on the grade 7 students for the
purpose of our concern with the number of students experiencing bullying and the
number of students who are suffering from mental health issues. We, researchers,
would like to be able to manage and assess the total number of grade 7 students of San

Conceptual Framework
This study involves two variables of which two are independent and the other is
dependent. The independent variable is bullying and mental health issues and the

CHAPTER 2
This part presents the review of the related literature of the study. It shows an in-
depth review of the existing knowledge and information regarding our chosen research
topic.
Bullying
(Celeste et al., 2019; Bisnar & Javier, 2019) states that “The most common
forms of bullying identified are covert and verbal bullying. Although there are some, who
verbalized to have experienced physical and cyberbullying. Physical bullying is common
among boys while verbal bullying is common among girls.” This practically states that
the effects of bullying may vary depending on the ways that it is done to someone;
Verbal bullying, Physical bullying, and Cyberbullying. However in this study, we
researchers focus more on the grade 7 students’ experience with bullying without
depending on the way it is done.
(Dallman et al., 2003; McEwen and McEwen, 2015) states that “Being the target
of bullying activates the stress system centered on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal
(HPA) axis”. The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal or HPA is the main stress response
system. Although stress may not be normally considered a mental health problem,
however, there are other ways in which it is related to our mental health: Stress can
lead to mental health issues and could be a cause of some serious problems in a
person’s state of mind. This statement explains the cycle-like process of the effect of
bullying; bullying-stress-mental health issues.
Grade 7 Student
“The leading reason why the respondents experienced bullying from their
classmates or schoolmates are just having fun. It was also discovered that the
prevailing negative effect of bullying to the Grade 7 learners of PNHS is rampant
absenteeism. Victims want to avoid their bullies. This leads to low academic
performance and sometimes dropping out of school.”(Sena & Sol 2019). This explains
how bullying heavily impacts the students’ mental health, this includes the way they
think and how they respond to the pain that they receive. As stated, absenteeism is one
of the effects caused by bullying just so the ones being bullied could avoid their bullies,
which leads to failing of academic performance, having low grades, and possibly drop
out of school.
CHAPTER 3
METHODOLOGY
This part presents the research design, participants of the study, research locale,
research instrument, data gathering procedure, and ethical considerations.
Research Design
This study employs a quantitative research design. This design is a quasi-
experimental research design. The researchers opted to use this design since the
researchers aim to (1). Regulate the data gathered from the respondents, (2) asses the
exact amount of grade 7 students who experienced bullying and, (3) manage the grade
7 students in dealing with the effects of bullying on their mental health.
Research locale
This study will be conducted at San Andres Academy of Maramag Inc. P-5A
North Poblacion, Maramag, Bukidnon. This school is a private catholic institution
founded by a Jesuit missionary priest, Fr. James Cawley s.j. in 1951. This school has
elementary, high school, and senior high school departments. The school building has 3
floors. The first floor is where the elementary and senior high school levels and the
library are located. The grade 7 and 10 high school level, the computer laboratory, and
the audio-visual room are located on the second floor. The third floor is where the grade
8 and 9 high school levels are located.

Ethical consideration
The researchers will make sure that ethical protocols in the conduct of the
research will be observed. Permission from the school principal and classroom adviser
and consent from the respondents will be sought first before the conduct of the study.
Respondents will be encouraged to participate in the study but will never be coerced to
do so if they refuse to. In other words, the researchers will ensure that all respondents
who will answer the questionnaires will participate in the study voluntarily. The
researchers will ensure that the privacy and confidentiality of the personal information of
the respondents will be properly observed. No personal information from the
respondents will be divulged. No data in the study will be falsified or fabricated. Any
form of deceit must be avoided. To ensure the originality of the work, the researchers
will have their manuscript. Examined by plagiarism software. All these ethical issues
must be avoided and all ethical protocols will observed by the researchers to come up
with a quality and ethically bound study.
