Welcome to Supanova 2006 Sydney!
Supanova returns to Sydney in October after a triumphant Brisbane in April and a
wonderful 2005.There are three major changes that need to be emphasised and
one general observation.
The first change is that we have moved back to the original 2002 home of
Supanova, the Exhibition Hall, Sydney Olympic Park. Although we had thought that
we would be back at Wharf 8 for one last year, as our increasing size meant a
change was required regardless of other factors, those other factors have resulted
in Supanova making this move now rather than later and it’s very exciting to be
doing so. Olympic Park means no more worrying about size limitations, no more
worries about parking and a railway station platform right next to the venue. Bump-
in will be a breeze as well with excellent vehicle access.
The second change is that we’ll be admitting Children aged 5 to 12 FREE for the
first time ever in Sydney if they are accompanied by a paying Adult. This was a huge
success in Brisbane and really helped make Supanova an affordable option for
families. It also made the decision for older youth to bring younger friends or
siblings along that much easier.
The third change is to Preview Night, 6pm to 10pm, Friday the 27th of October.
Unlike Sydney last year we will restrict access to only certain areas thus allowing
exhibitors enough time to set up without the additional pressure of having to do so
by 6pm on Friday. The feedback we received from exhibitors suggests this option is
the best to go with unless we move to a full three day event with a Thursday bump-
in (something we’ll do in a few years if the impetus we keep generating continues).
The general observation is that it’s going to be a HUGE, NOT BE MISSED, EVENT!
Many other events are beginning to tout their credentials, some with a history and
some that are new. What cannot be argued with however is that Supanova has the
runs on the board and a history of progress and growth, growth that has been evident
through the application of hard work, insightful long-term planning and the acquisition
of fantastic sponsors and great partners. Now in 2006 we are genuinely looking at
finally moving into five figure attendance and perhaps beyond (see graph below).

Our plan to get us there...?
• Great promotion including a TV ad campaign on free to air and Cartoon
Network, 80,000+ circulation free magazine, 100,000+ A5 flyer, 1,000+ poster
campaign, magazine advertising and targeted email databases in their 100,000’s
• Introducing and emphasising FREE tickets for children aged 5 to 12 as mentioned
earlier
• Fantastic Celebrity Guests whose presence will not only attract fans from their
respective genres but allows our brilliant public relations team to build excitement
through TV, radio, magazine and newspaper articles and interviews.
• An enthusiastic and committed fan base that supports us annually that also act as
word of mouth army spreading the word about the wonderful array of
exhibitors, retailers, guests and interactive competitions that we schedule event in
and event out.
As can be seen Supanova 2006 in Sydney is one place you won’t want to miss,
whether it is physically at the expo or advertising in our magazine or showbag.
Further, from an Artists’ Alley perspective, the event just seems to get bigger and
bigger as more talent reveals itself annually with there being no better place in
Australia to showcase your talent and tell your own stories. As always we feel it is a
very important part of the expo and we have yet again resisted the urge to put up
the price for an early-bird table meaning our prices have stayed the same ever since
we went to a two-day con back in 2001. Not a bad track record if we do say so
ourselves.
And if you care to take note of the floorplan below you might be a little surprised
with what you see. While the plan is subject to change and ultimately venue
approval it is our hope to place the Artists’ Alley smack bang in the centre of
everything. We really hope we can keep it there.
Alongside the floorplan you will also find all the rest of the information you need to
be part of Supanova. As always space will be allocated in the order that it is sold
with the important date of Friday 18th August, 2006, the one you need to put in
your diaries, being the cut-off day for the early-bird discount.
If you have further enquiries please email (daniel@supanova.com.au),
fax (02 9541 2948) or call (0412 026 797).
Regards,
Daniel Zachariou
Event Director Supanova Pop Culture Expo 2006
Please note that we have come to realise that our goodwill in not being too harsh
in the enforcement of certain points of our codes of conduct, and the display of
certain items, has led many to argue “if so-and-so did that, why can’t we do this?”
and then to keep pushing those boundaries. All we can suggest is to NOT tempt
fate and to take responsibility for your own areas/merchandise or you will find
yourselves removed from Supanova with no right for argument. No nudity or
partial nudity is to be displayed and no material considered X-rated or unclassifiable
is to be sold at all.You have been warned.
