LPG prices up effective March 1, 2024

Households should tighten belts anew this month amid the upward adjustment in the retail prices of
liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).In an advisory, Petron said it hiked its household LPG price by P0.30 per
kilogram, effective 12 noon on March 1.The adjustment is equivalent to an over P3 increase in the price
of a typical 11-kilogram LPG cylinder.“This reflects the international contract price of LPG for the month
of March,” Petron said.Rate, contribution hikes expected in 2024Meanwhile, Solane announced it will
hike the per kilogram price of its LPG tank by P0.27, effective at 6 a.m. on March 2.Other fuel firms have
yet to announce price adjustments in their LPG products.This is the third consecutive month of hikes in
LPG prices since the beginning of the year, when a P3.40 per kilogram increase was implemented for the
fuel.Data from the Department of Energy showed that the overall price range of a typical 11-kilogram

Target ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) na ipatupad ngayong Marso 2024 ang special discount
na P125 kada linggo para sa mga senior citizen at person with disability (PWD) sa mga binibili nilang
groceries at iba pang prime commodity.Subalit pumalag naman ang grupo ng mga supermarket at
nagbabala na posibleng ipasa ng mga negosyante ang karagdagang diskuwento sa pamamagitan ng taas-
presyo sa mga bilihin.Ayon kay DTI Assistant Secretary for Consumer Protection Group Amanda
Nograles, batay sa naunang pulong sa iba’t ibang ahensya ng gobyerno, walang tumutol sa mga ito sa
gagawing pagbabago sa joint administrative order para sa special discount.Kabilang sa nagpulong ang
DTI, Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, Bureau of Internal Revenue, Department of
Health, at Department of Social Welfare and Development.“Maganda po dito, wala pong humatol, OK
po sa kanila na taasan po ang discount ng ating mga senior, maliban dyan, mayroon din po silang
suggestion na baguhin na rin at i-update na rin ang joint administrative order para ma-implement nang
mas mainam `yung special discount ng ating mga senior citizen,” pahayag ni Nograles.Isa sa pinag-
aaralan umano ng DTI ay kung sino ang sasalo sa epekto ng pagtaas sa special discount ng mga senior
citizen at PWD. Binigyan ng pagkakataon ang mga stakeholder tulad ng retailers, manufacturers at
maging ang mga konsyumer para magbigay ng komento at suhestiyon.Dagdag pa ni Nograles na kapag
naplantsa ang mga isyu ay ilalabas na ang pinal na joint administrative order para ipatupad ang P125

Presyo ng bigas nagpasirit sa inflation

Tumalon sa 3.4% ang inflation nitong Pebrero mula sa 2.8% ng Enero, ayon sa Philippine Statistics
Authority (PSA).Sabi ni PSA Undersecretary Dennis Mapa, umakyat ang inflation dahil sa pagsirit ng
presyo ng bigas. Nagtala ng inflation rate na 23.7% ang bigas nitong Pebrero, ang pinakamataas nito
mula Pebrero 2009 nang umabot sa 24.6% ang inflation rate ng bigas.“‘Yong bigas, siya ‘yong trigger
talaga. It was already high in January, nakita nating mas mataas pa ngayong Pebrero,” sabi ni Mapa
kahapon.Ang inflation rate ay ang bilis na pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin at halos kalahati ng inflation
nung Pebrero ay dahil lamang sa bigas.Babala ni Mapa, mananatiling mataas ang inflation ng bigas
hanggang sa Hulyo o Agosto sapagkat mataas pa rin ang presyo ng bigas sa world market at ipit pa ang
suplay nito sa bansa.Sumirit ang inflation rate ng bigas nitong Pebrero sa 23.7%, ang pinakamataas na
