KEROSENE POISONING { S / N }

 INTRODUCTION :-
 Kerosene is locally irritating to the mucus membrane of GI tract.
 After absorption it has Neurotoxic, Nephrotoxic & Respiratory depression
action.

 FATAL DOSE :- 30 ml.

 FATAL PERIOD :- Not fixed.

 ACTION :-
 Barbiturates are CNS Depressants, Hypnotic, Sedative, Anticonvulsant &
Anaesthetic.

 SIGNS & SYMPTOMS :-


- Pain in Abdomen.
- Nausea, Vomiting & Diarrhoea.
- Smell of Kerosene in the Breath.
- Headache & Drowsiness.
- Mental confusion.
- Convulsion.
- Respiratory failure
- Glycosuria.
- Proteinuria.
- Pneumonitis.

 TREATMENT :-
1. Stomach wash with Sodium Bicarbonate, avoid aspiration.
2. Artificial respiration & Oxygen inhalation.
3. Symptomatic treatment.
 POSTMORTERM APPEARANCE :-
• Smell of kerosene from Abdominal or Chest cavities.
• Haemorrhagic spots present in the mucus membrane of Stomach & on the
surface of the Lungs.
• Lungs are congested & oedematous.
• Organs are congested.
• Kidneys shows degenerative changes.

 MLI :-
1. Accidental poisoning is common & occurs mostly in children.
2. Suicidal poisoning is rare.
