Failure of just the OCC implies there is still connectivity to the Primary and Standby. For new connections to the Primary
or the Standby, the DNS in the OCC will be unavailable for host name resolution so the client will be unable to connect.
To compensate for this failure condition the domain for this Cloud at Customer installation should be offloaded to the
customer’s DNS.

East – West Between Data Centers

If there is a separation of the OCC and an ExaCC it is paired with, the customer’s network is used to connect the OCC’s
ToR switch to that ExaCC’s ToR switch. Each ToR switch has two interfaces for this interconnect and should be
connected to the customer’s network with redundant paths. The two ToR switches use either a GRE Tunnel or NAT and
during daily operation does not require a high bandwidth connection. However, for the entire lifecycle of the Cloud at
Customer, such as during install, patching, backup to OCC object storage, the bandwidth requirement changes. If the
two ToR switches were close together, they would have dual 40Gb/s connections between them. But if the ExaCC ToR
switch is in a different data center, 40Gb/s may not be available. A minimum of 10Gb/s is required.

If the ExaCCs in the different data centers are to be using Data Guard, the generated traffic should be over the ExaCC
Backup network, or Client network, but not over the ToR switch interconnect.

Backups to the OCC object storage from the remote ExaCC to the OCC will impact other lifecycle operations. The
Service Level Agreement for the various lifecycle operations could be impacted. To compensate for this, the ToR
interconnect bandwidth should be made large enough to accomodate the data transfer.

DNS Offload Required for DR Solution

With the default Cloud at Customer installation, the OCC DNS is Authoritative for the Cloud at Customer domain. The
DNS request that comes from a client for a resource on the Cloud at Customer system will first flow through the
customer’s DNS.
