Honours Orientation Notes

- Self-enrol in courses 31/1


- 9th of October 3PM HONOURS THESIS DUE DATE
- Week 4 T1 – Proposal is due (8-10 pages; double spaced)  Planned research,
rationale and expected outcomes
- You are responsible for organising your own panel meeting time  Provide each
panel member with your written research proposal at least three working days prior
to the meeting
- Data collection after ethics clearance/complete all Health and Safety training (after
panel meeting)

Writing your thesis (62.5%)


- Prepped in accordance with Guide to Writing Psychology Honours Dissertations and
latest edition of APA document
- 12-15k words
- Does not include tables, graphs and figures; references; appendices; preliminary
pages
- Over long theses will be marked down
- 50-60 pgs; 2.5cm margins; double-spaced
- You must submit two electronic copies of your thesis
o One cut down version for plagiarism check
o One FULL version for marking
- Special consideration  Tell supervisor, Honours coordinators and lodge a formal
application
- Ensure that you communicate the intricacies of what you do to audiences that may
not be experienced in your research field

Coursework (37.5%)
- PSYC4093 – more heavily weighted
o Two topics:
 Ethics
 History and Systems
 One two hour lecture and one hour tutorial per week
- PSYC4103 – elective weighted more heavily
o One topic; three sub-topics
 Evidenced-based practice with clinical, forensic and organisational
psychology
 One two hour lecture and one hour tutorial per week
 Self-enrolment in April
- Elective component
o One two hour seminar per week for 9 weeks

- Can provide guidance on intro, method and results
