Description
Orange, viscous suspension containing free lutein
Monographs
isolated from marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta).
Lutein 20% SAF meets the requirements of the
current USP (Lutein Preparation) monograph. The
Composition active ingredient of Lutein 20% SAF meets the
Ingredient in descending order of weight: requirements of the current USP (Lutein)
Safflower oil, lutein (E 161b), DL-alpha-tocopherol monograph. It also complies with the purity
(E 307). requirements of EU regulation laying down
specifications for food additives (E 161b).
Solubility Furthermore the active ingredient meets the
Soluble in hexane, benzene and chloroform; purity requirements of the current JECFA
partially soluble in ethanol; sparingly soluble in monograph (Lutein from Tagetes Erecta),
oils and fats; insoluble in water. INS 161 b(i).

Regulations
Lutein is approved for use as a food colorant and
as a nutritional ingredient in most countries. How-
ever, specific regulations on the ingredients used
in the respective countries and for the intended
use have to be observed.

Stability
The product is stabilized with D,L-alpha-
tocopherol. Stored in the unopened original
packaging at ambient temperature (max. 25 °C)
in a dry place, the product is stable for at least
24 months.

Storage/Handling
Lutein crystals might sink to the bottom. Please
mix thoroughly before sampling or use.
Once opened, it is recommended to use remaining
content as quickly as possible.

Applications
Dietary supplements
Suitable for preparations with lipophilic phase
like soft gel capsules.

Note
Lutein 20% SAF must be handled in accordance to
the safety data sheet.
