SECTION C: READING COMPREHENSION (10mks)

Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.
Some disputes are easy to solve: there is clearly a right side and a wrong. If a man has beaten his wife, he is the wrong.
No adult has the right to hit any other adult.
Other disputes are more complex. Consider this case. A remove village is too small to have its own clinic.
Villagers walk for 14 km to get to the nearest town to get supplies. One villager started to fetch basic medical supplies. He
brought in plasters, bandages, some medicines and tablets.
He paid for those, and they charged the villagers what he had paid plus about 10%. The villagers did not mind this, as
obviously he needed to earn money for this work.
This dispute arose because he was also picking up free medical supplies such as condoms, anti-malarial tablets and water
purifying tablets. He charged the villagers a small fee for all these. When people realized that these supplies were free in
areas that were close clinics, they were upset. They refused to pay. He responded by saying he would refuse to bring those
free supplies.
The issue was referred to the village authorities. They discussed the matter with government health department. They
decided that it was not lawful to charge money for supplies that were meant to be free.
Finally, one villager, a single mother of four children, came up with a solution that everyone agreed with. “We can pay
him for his labour in collection and delivered. So we are not paying for the free supplies. But we will pay him a flat fee of 150
FCFA for each delivery.”
