them. So, fellow classmates let us be _________________ in French and English for a(n) __________
and peaceful Cameroon. Thanks for your attention.
Section C: Reading Comprehension (10marks)
Read the passage below and answer questions that follow. Use your own words as far as possible.
ALCOHOL OUR DANGEROUS PARTNER
There’s no doubt that Cameroon needs healthy young men and women to sustain its economy
Alcoholism. We all know it is not compatible with good health.
Many of the diseases we suffer now are alcohol-related. There is not a single patient who on
discharge from hospital does not go home with the instruction ‘‘do not drink alcohol’’. Whether these
instructions are ever taken serious remains to seen. Alcohol does not only affect the liver and other
vital organs of the body but it has been proved by doctors to have an irreparably damaging action on
the brain. Here, the level of thinking becomes low-a very regrettable thing for any progressive people.
What is particularly worrying is the period at which most of us drink. It is not unusual to find
people drinking as early as 6.30 a.m.: an exercise that keeps out any breakfast, while most addicts
return to their homes as late as 7.p.m each day of the week.
The number of drunken persons usually seen staggering or lying helplessly on our street because of
excessive drinking is alarming. Some people still to have bands of liquors dealers.
It now seems that some kind of campaign on the hazards of alcohol is necessary.

1989)
