If I were Caleb or Beatrice, I would choose to stay with my family’s clan. Since, I already know
what faction I’m going to join when I turn 16. I would know what certain rules to follow. Also,
to continue what my family has been a part of.

It would be difficult to abandon your family’s clan. Especially, if you have grown with them
being in that faction. It would be hard to join another faction that is different from what your
family is a part of. Since your family also expects you to be in the same faction as them.

Though joining another faction would be a new experience. You’ll get to choose from the other 4
factions. You’d get to experience what other factions do, what there rules are, and what they’re
like. That is if you pass the test for those certain factions.

However, the guilt of abandoning your family’s faction would be hard to get over. I’d choose to
stay on my family’s clan rather than abandoning them. Since, no faction is good or bad or rich
and poor. All of them will only depend on what personality you have.

One afternoon, Beatrice and her brother Caleb is going to take the test for the
Abnegation. As Beatrice sit downs in the cafeteria and waits, she notices the other factions and
starts comparing them to Abnegation. ”The Dauntless, They are laughing and shouting while
playing cards, and the Erudites, chattering over books and newspapers then there’s Amity,
playing some kind of hand-slapping game involving a rhyming song, lastly the Candor, they’re
making uch wide gestures with their hands”.
Beatricep knows where Caleb belongs, because Caleb has been generous and selfless and
he always has. The test administrators call the students into a room. Caleb goes into the room
and emerges a short time later, looking very pale. Beatrice knows she’s not allowed to ask Caleb
about his results, so she doesn’t. Beatrice is called into a room, and she is identified as Beatrice
Prior. She shares a quick smile with her friend and neighbour, Susan Black. Inside the room,
Beatrice meets a woman named Tori, who tells Beatrice to take a seat.
Tori attaches electrodes to her forehead one by one as her and Beatrice have a
coonversation. Tori then gives Beatrice a vial with clear liquid then tells her to drink it, as
Beatrice drinks the liquid she loses consciousness. Beatrice wakes up in a strange room. In front
of her, there’s a hunk of cheese, and a knife. A woman shouts at Beatrice to choose between the
two items. Confused and frustrated, Beatrice crosses her arms and refuses to do so. The woman
mutters, “Have it your way,” and lets in a snarling dog. Beatrice is terrified by the dog. As the
dog slowly approaches Beatrice, she closes her eyes and stood still, the dog became friendly with
her and stopped its growling.
She then notices that there’s a young girl sitting in the room. As the dog approaches the
young girl, Beatrice throws herself in front of the dog, protecting the girl. Suddenly, the dog
disappears, and Beatrice finds herself alone in the room. She turns and sees a man with a
newspaper and scarred hands. He shows Beatrice a photograph of a “Brutal Murderer,” and asks
Beatrice if she knows him. Beatrice lies and says that she doesn’t. The man shouts that Beatrice
is lying, but Beatrice insists otherwise.
