Introduction
LTM 1030/2
For Liebherr, the introduction of the data bus technology was a large technological jump with
great risks.
The first Liebherr crane with data bus technology was delivered in October 1997 as an LTM
1030/2.
The electric and electronic components in the LTM 1030/2 are networked via only one data
bus ( LSB1 = Liebherr System Bus 1).
In the Liebherr System Bus, a differentiation is made between active and passive stations.
General:
Several stations (actors. sensors or other LSB-stations) are connected via a data line.
Costly wiring work is eliminated and the number of errorprone plug connections are
thereby reduced.
Each bus station has its own intelligence in the form of a micro controller.
Via the bus, a communication between the individual stations occurs.
In the above view, the communication of the individual bus stations are explained on the
example of simplified bus coupling switching. The switches depict the sending function, the
bulbs the receiver. Each station has its own address, which is in the system only one time.
The station 1 (ZE0 ) has the address 1 and a master function, the station 2 (angle sensor)
has the address 2 etc. A maximum of 30 stations can be connected to the bus.
The bus line is supplied via a constant power source with 2 A. It has the task to allow a
limited current of 2A to flow against ground in case of a short circuit. So that the individual
stations can communicate with each other, each should speak or understand the same
language.
In the example, this language could be the Morse code.
When the system is turned on, then the power source receives 24V and supplies the bus
line. All recipient bulbs light up. Each station is activated. The station 1 with address 1
(master function), by pressing its key, starts to address station 2 in morse code. All stations
receive the message. The receiver bulbs blink. The station 2 recognizes by decoding the
message, that he is addressed and sends its answer back by pressing its key.
The method of how the communication takes place on the line is set down in a
transfer protocol, with which all stations work.
If station 1 has received an answer from station 2 (software handshake),
then he can address another station or release the bus for other stations.
In this case, station 1 switches into the listening mode and another
station uses the bus.
The transfer speed adjusts automatically to the station, who holds the smallest transfer rate
(Baudrate).
In practice, lamp and switch are replaced by power transistors and comparators in the bus
adaption control.
The control or evaluation of the bus signals is taken over by a micro controller, which
processes the RXD- (receiver) or TXD- (sender) signals from the Bus adaption control.
Bus interconnection:
The bus coupling control has been developed for 2-wire or 3-wire bus systems. The control
is installed on the input circuit board of the CPU as well as in each bus station.
For the 2-wire system, the power supply for the application electronic (sensors..) is made
from the cycled bus signals. If the bus signal is “high”, then the current flows via fuse F1,
through diode V1 to the storage condenser C1. The condenser is charged to the bus
voltage (24V). With this voltage, the electronic component groups switched subsequently
can be supplied.
If the bus signal goes to „low“, then the diode prevents the discharge of the condenser. The
voltage divider R1, R2 determines the LOW threshold of the subsequently switched
comparator, which transfers the digital bus signals into defined switch signals. The bus
signal is always larger or smaller then the signal on the negative input of the comparator. It
therefore switches defined and forwards this signal to the application electronic.
The switch threshold of the „Low-High“ transfer is defined to 1/3 of the bus supply
voltage. The switch hysteresis is between 1/3 and 2/3 of the bus voltage.
The sender (TXD) consists only of a power transistor, which short circuits the bus signal
against ground. Since the bus is supplied by a constant power source, a defined flow of 2A
flows via the transistor to ground. The information, which is transferred via the Bus line,
consists of a pulse string of high-low signals.
All connected bus stations listen to this information at the same time.
Bus protocol:
The serial data protocol explained in the example with the Morse code consists in practice
of a certain number of pulse strings. The information is transferred in a 10 bit wide data
format, described as sign frame below. Each frame starts with a start bit, followed by 8 data
bits and ends with 1 stop bit.
The connected stations are synchronized with the break signal.
The break signal consists of a star bit, the 8 data bits which follow and 1 stop bit are Low. An
attempt to synchronize the bus stations can be recognized by even flickering of the Bus-LED
on the input circuit board (bus adaption control). (The Bus master sends a break sign.)
The communication on the LICCON System BUS can occur via 7 different
message types:
4. 1-BIT ANSWER
The slave sends a 1 Bit answer (for example: hoist top limit switch).
5. 16-BIT ANSWER
The slave sends a 16 Bit answer (for example: digitalized analog value length sensor)
7 SYNCHRONIZATION (BREAK-SIGNAL)
The master or slave can depose of a BREAK signal to report an error at communication.
The current communication is ended and all stations are synchronized. The above listing
shows that a message can consist of various message types.
Each message consists of protocol, data and check sum frames.
The above listing shows that a message can consist of various message types. Each
message consists of protocol, data and check sum frames.
The smallest message consists of a protocol frame with 1Bit data and a check sum frame.
The longest message contains 2 protocol frames, maximum 8 data frames and a check sum
frame.
IThe 1st protocol frame contains in Bit 0 to 4 the address, in Bit 5 to 7 the message type
recognition. The following 2nd frame contains in Bit 0..2 the indication of the following data
frames and in Bit 3 to 7 the function specification of the message.
General description
The I/O module is used to integrate the commonly switched electrical function units, such as
the hydraulic support, cockpit functions or Diesel engine control into the Liccon system.
These „function islands“ are located on central and protected points on the chassis and
superstructure.
The units communicate among each other via the Liebherr System Bus (LSB). The receive
commands from the CPUs, actuate users, such as solenoid valves, or provide responses of
sensor values to the Liccon system.
The control intelligence (Software) of the I/O modules is downloaded via the LSB data bus.
Each crane is correspondingly programmed by its different, customer specific equipment
and receives its control parameters via the loaded program memory cards.
These parameter and control programming is downloaded via the „SW-Download“ from the
program memory cards to the EEprom´s of the I/O modules. (See description „SW-
Download and exchange of I/O modules“)

3.3.1.1 Information
In the detail view, the actual / nominal comparison of the type characteristic is shown
LSB>ADRESSE Describes the address on the bus, under which a sensor is listed. Each participant
must have a clear address.
TYP Each participant on the bus is identified by a type characteristic. This characteristic
is already fixed and programmed into the sensor by the manufacturer.
SW Depicts the version number of the sensor firmware. Only participants with the same
or higher software version than the nominal version are compatible with each other.
STATUS The status shows the operating view of the participants in compressed form. See
paragraph 1.3, LSB detail view > hoist limit switch with wind velocity sensor.
NR. Machine number of the crane. It must be the same for all master participants
connected to the bus. During LSB boot>up, a check is made to ensure that all
components have the same number.
V.R Version number of total application, which is programmed on input / output module.
LSB>NR. The LSB number shows, to which bus the input / output module is connected to. In
case of several CPU's, there might be several bus numbers. They are marked by a
running number.

SPI This number shows which serial control unit is connected on the input / output
module. There are various numbers:
DATEN (DATA)
On the input / output module or CPU, no data is shown, because they interchange large data blocks. The
contents of these data blocks is not readable by the user.

Display unit
The temperature sensor „Sump“, as described by ZF, is not in the oil sump of the
transmission, but in the hydraulic control unit HSG 94 (valve shift plate), which only sits on the
transmission, and is supplied with oil by the oil pump from the sump.
From machine No. 002528808 (Series 25), an additional temperature sensor is located on
the outlet of the converter, to protect the transmission from overheating. If the
transmission oil exceeds a temperature of 120 °C, then the transmission temperature control
light lights up on the display unit.
Example:
At a brake pressure of p = 2,5bar, the lower 2 LED´s of the bargraph light up. At a brake
pressure of p = 0,9 bar, no LED lights up.

LSB1 - Overview:
1 Information
In the detail view, the actual / nominal comparison of the type characteristic is shown.
LSB>ADRESSE Describes the address on the Liebherr System Bus, under which a sensor is
addressed. Each participant must have a clear address.
TYP Each participant on the bus is identified by a type characteristic. This type
characteristic has already been programmed by the sensor manufacturer.
SW Depicts the version number of the sensor firmware. Only participants with the same
or higher software version than the nominal version are compatible with each other.
STATUS The status shows the operating view of the participant in compressed form. It is
shown as a binary number.
The meaning of the various bits is as follows:
Automatic addressing
Note:
A non-addressed bus sensor (bus sensor with address 0) may not be connected to a LSB
bus. The LSB sensor must be clearly identifyable, i.e. the sensor must have a clear type
identification. If several sensors have to be addressed, then only one after the other may be
connected and addressed. The automatic addressing functions only in the Test screen (fig.
1).
Procedure - automatic addressing:
1. Install LSB sensor or connect the LSB Fig. 1 - LICCON Test system:
sensor via test wiring harness
(LWE Id. No. 61710108)
to the corresponding input circuit
board.

with .
01-01-26 09:26/25
Note:
For a replaced LSB sensor, after automatic addressing, if the sensor appears again with the
address „00“, then automatic addressing is not possible!
In this case, the LSB sensor must be addressed semi-automatically.
Semi-automatic addressing
Note:
The semi-automatic addressing is utilized when the assignment of the new sensor to the
final address is not clear. Prerequisite for the semi-automatic addressing is that the sensor
to be addressed is on address „00“ . Sensors, which are not on address „00“, cannot be
assigned manually to another location.

1. Two LSB sensor with the same address on the same bus:
If an addressed LSB sensor is connected to a 1. Example of error:
bus, on which a sensor with the same address Fig. 1 - two sensors with address 12
is already assigned, then it appears with the
25
mark „ “ (sensor not available). 01-01-26 09:26/25 5
Cause of error:
Due to the fact that two sensor with the same
address report on the bus, a Bus collision
occurs. This is seen by the fact that the
collision counter (K) and the check counter (C)
are not zero (0) (fig. 1).
Error remedy:
On the input circuit boards, pull off all sensors
and connect a new sensor via test wiring
harness (LWE Id.No. 961710108) to the input
circuit board.
2. Example of error:
Change the address of the sensor manually Fig. 2 - Sensor with incorrect address:

03
2. LSB sensor with incorrect address:
If an addressed sensor is connected to an
LSB, on which this address is not given, then
this sensor appears with a „ “ as
identification (fig. 2).
Example of error:
Sensor with actual address 03 is supposed
to be sensor with nominal address 12 (fig. 2).
Error remedy:
Address the LSB sensor via procedure -
automatic addressing or manual addressing.
