Make 2 quilts at once!

You will be making both the “Home” quilt and “Away” quilt simultaneously,
so pay close attention to all instructions. YouTube.com/Shabby Fabrics

Cut Fabric
From red floral fabric, cut: From green ditsy fabric, cut:
• (12) 7" × 7" squares • (6) 7" × 7" squares

From pink ditsy fabric, cut: From green tonal leaves fabric, cut:
• (12) 7" × 7" squares • (10) 21/2" × WOF strips for binding
• (5) 11/2" × WOF strips for “Home” inner border
• (4) 1" × WOF strips for “Away” inner border

From yellow floral fabric, cut: From white bouquet fabric, cut:
• (6) 7" × 7" squares • (4) 54" × 41/2" LOF for “Home” outer border
• (4) 3" × 42" strips for “Away” outer border

From yellow ditsy fabric, cut: From white ditsy fabric, cut:
• (6) 7" × 7" squares • (96) 4" × 4" squares

From green floral fabric, cut:


• (6) 7" × 7" squares

Make Half-Square Triangles


STEP 1: On the back of (1) pink ditsy 7" × 7" square, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. STEP 2: Layer this square
and one red floral square, RST, making sure to line up the edges. STEP 3: Sew ¼" on both sides of the drawn line. STEP 4:
Cut on the drawn line. Press seam open. STEP 5: You now have two Half Square Triangles (HST).

Repeat Steps 1-5 to make a total of (24) pink ditsy/red floral HST, (12) green ditsy/green floral HST, and (12) yellow ditsy/
yellow floral HST. Square up each HST to 61/2" × 61/2".

Make Block Units
IMPORTANT: Pay close attention to the orientation of the block in each step.
STEP 1: On the back of (1) white ditsy 4" × 4" square, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. STEP 2: Layer this
square in the upper right corner of (1) pink ditsy/red floral HST, RST, being sure to line up the edges. STEP 3: Sew on the
drawn line. STEP 4: Using your ruler, measure and draw a line 1/2" from your sewn line, on the side nearest the corner.
STEP 5: Sew on the drawn line. STEP 6: Cut between the two sewn lines, approximately 1/4" from each.

STEP 7: You now have two pieces. On large unit, press seam out toward corner. On small unit, press seam away from white.
Set aside the small unit. Use the large unit to continue with the following steps.

STEP 8: On the back of (1) white ditsy 4" × 4" square, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. STEP 9: Layer
this square in the lower left corner of large unit, RST, being sure to line up the edges. STEP 10: Sew on the drawn line.
STEP 11: Using your ruler, measure and draw a line 1/2" from your sewn line, on the side nearest the corner. STEP 12: Sew
on the drawn line. STEP 13: Cut between the two sewn lines, approximately 1/4" from each.

STEP 14: You now have two pieces. On large unit, press seam out toward corner. On small unit, press seam toward white.

Repeat Steps 1-14 to make a total of (24) sets of pink ditsy/red floral units, (12) sets of green ditsy/green floral units, and
(12) sets of yellow floral/yellow ditsy units, with this exception: for yellow and green units, in STEP 7 and STEP 14, press
large unit seams toward block center.

Set aside all small units for the “Away” quilt. Use the large units to assemble the “Home” quilt.

Assemble “Home” Quilt


Arrange units into blocks, referring to images (below) for fabric placement and unit orientation. Sew units together in rows,
pressing seams open. Sew rows together, pressing seams open.
Make a total of (6) green/red blocks, and (6) yellow/red blocks. Blocks will measure 121/2" × 121/2".

Arrange blocks as shown (right). Sew blocks

For the remaining steps, press all seams
toward borders.
Piece “Home” inner border strips into one
long strip.
Sew a “Home” inner border strip to the left
and right sides of the quilt, and trim to be
even with the quilt.
Sew a “Home” inner border strip to the top
and bottom of the quilt, and trim to be even
with the quilt.
Sew a “Home” outer border strip to the left
and right sides of the quilt, and trim to be
even with the quilt.
Sew a “Home” outer border strip to the top
and bottom of the quilt, and trim to be even
with the quilt.

Assemble “Away” Quilt
Gather up all the small units left over from the Home quilt. IMPORTANT: Square up each unit to 3" × 3".
Arrange units into blocks, referring to images (below) for fabric placement and unit orientation. Sew units together in rows,
pressing seams open. Sew rows together, pressing seams open.
Make a total of (12) red floral/pink ditsy blocks, (6) green floral/green ditsy blocks, and (6) yellow ditsy/yellow floral blocks.
Blocks will measure 61/2" × 61/2".

Arrange blocks as shown (right). Sew blocks together


in rows, pressing seams open. Then sew rows together,
pressing seams open.
For the remaining steps, press all seams toward borders.
Sew an “Away” inner border strip to the left and right
sides of the quilt, and trim to be even with the quilt.
Sew an “Away” inner border strip to the top and bottom of
the quilt, and trim to be even with the quilt.
Sew an “Away” outer border strip to the left and right
sides of the quilt, and trim to be even with the quilt.
Sew an “Away” outer border strip to the top and bottom of
the quilt, and trim to be even with the quilt.

Finish Quilts
Layer each quilt top, batting, and backing. Quilt as desired.
Sew (10) binding strips together into one continuous strip
for both quilts.
Fold binding strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides
together and press. Line up raw edges of the binding strip
with any raw edge of quilt. Sew the binding to the front “Away” Quilt Assembly
side of the quilt, starting at any side. Turn the binding over
and hand stitch or machine sew to the back of the quilt.
