Lucky Bonus Question

5)
The Large Hadron Collider outside Geneva boosts protons to energies of 6.5 TeV (6,500 GeV) in five
stages (the numbers given in brackets represent the total kinetic energy of the protons at the end of
each stage).
The second and the fourth booster accelerators are: the Proton Synchrotron (1.4 GeV), and Super
Proton Synchrotron (450 GeV), respectively. Using
𝐾𝐾 + 𝑚𝑚𝑝𝑝 𝑐𝑐 2 = 𝛾𝛾 𝑚𝑚𝑝𝑝 𝑐𝑐 2 = total energy

where K is the kinetic energy of the proton, calculate the speed (β= v/c) as a fraction of the speed of
light c of the protons at the end of these booster stages stage? For a proton use mp c2 = 938 MeV
