First Term Speaking Evaluation 2022 -Year 10

Kindly Note-:

1.You are expected to send an audio recording of your speaking based on the
topic you decide to choose.

2.Your audio files should be at least a minimum of 3 mins to a maximum of 5


mins covering all the questions mentioned in your topic.

A) Ambition

We’re all told that it is good to aim for improvement.

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• your own ambitions – at the moment and in the future

• some ambitious people you know about and what they have achieved

• positive characteristics that are connected with ambition

• some problems for the individual and society which are associated with being too
ambitious

• society’s response to people who appear not to be ambitious.

You are free to consider any other related ideas of your own.
B) Advertising

Advertising is used to persuade people to buy something or to believe something.

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• any advertisements that you have seen or heard recently

• what you think makes a successful advertisement

• the suggestion that advertising does more harm than good

• the idea that there should be laws banning advertisements aimed at children

• what society would be like without advertising.

You are free to consider any other related ideas of your own.

C) Contact sports

People have different views on ‘contact’ sports – i.e. sports where there is physical
contact.

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• any experience you have had playing or watching a contact sport

• some sports you know about which don’t involve any contact at all

• the idea that using sports to release energy and aggression is a good thing

• when a contact sport becomes unacceptable and/or dangerous

• the suggestion that violent contact sports should be banned.

D) Films and how they are made


Watching movies is still a very popular pastime for people all around the world.

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• a film you have seen recently, or one that you would like to see

• the types of films you like to see

• the various people involved in making a film

• what qualities might result in a film being nominated for an award

• whether films should be used to influence people.

E) Consideration for others

We all have a duty to be considerate towards other people in our daily lives.

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• times when you have been considerate towards others

• how you expect other people to treat you

• basic human rights that we should all be entitled to

• occasions when people are treated unfairly in society

• the suggestion that the individual is more important than society.

You are free to consider any other related ideas of your own.

F) Science

Many people accept that science helps to explain the world around us

Please use the following ideas to help develop the conversation:

• some scientific ideas that interest you

• whether or not you would like to become a scientist

• how science has helped to improve people’s lives


• ways in which scientific developments have caused problems

• the suggestion that science cannot explain everything.

You are free to consider any other related ideas of your own.

G) Preparing for work

Many young people start thinking about their future careers while they are still at
school.

Use the following prompts, in the order given below, to develop the conversation:

• the job that you would like to do when you are older, and why

• different things people think about when deciding on their future careers

• whether work experience is more important than qualifications for getting a job

• the advantages and disadvantages of having the same job all your working life

• the view that it’s more important to have a good social life than a well-paid job.

H) Time management

Some people organise their time well in order to do everything they want.

Use the following prompts, in the order given below, to develop the conversation:

• whether you think you organise your time well, and why

• an occasion when you didn’t have enough time, and what happened

• reasons why some people find it difficult to manage their time

• the opinion that good time management is essential for success

• the suggestion that, in the future, people will have less free time.

You may introduce related ideas of your own to expand on these prompts.
