A farmer owns a triangular field ABC. The length of side [AB] is 85 m and side [AC] is
110 m. The angle between these two sides is 55. Find the area of the field.

1b. [6 marks]
The farmer would like to divide the field into two equal parts by constructing a straight
fence from A to a point D on [BC]. Find BD. Fully justify any assumptions you make.

The Bermuda Triangle is a region of the Atlantic Ocean with Miami (M), Bermuda (B),
and San Juan (S) as vertices, as shown on the diagram.

The distances between M, B and S are given in the following table, correct to
three significant figures.

Calculate the value of 𝜃𝜃, the measure of angle MŜB.

2b. [2 marks]
Find the area of the Bermuda Triangle.

Dilara is designing a kite ABCD on a set of coordinate axes in which one unit represents
10 cm. The coordinates of A, B and C are (2, 0), (0, 4) and (4, 6) respectively. Point D lies
on the 𝑥𝑥-axis. [AC] is perpendicular to [BD]. This information is shown in the following
diagram.

Find the gradient of the line through A and C.

3b. [1 mark]
Write down the gradient of the line through B and D.

3c. [2 marks]
Find the equation of the line through B and D. Give your answer in the form 𝑎𝑎𝑎𝑎 + 𝑏𝑏𝑏𝑏 + 𝑑𝑑 =
0, where 𝑎𝑎, 𝑏𝑏 and 𝑑𝑑 are integers.

3
3d. [1 mark]
Write down the 𝑥𝑥-coordinate of point D.

Joey is making a party hat in the form of a cone. The hat is made from a sector, AOB, of
a circular piece of paper with a radius of 18 cm and AÔB = 𝜃𝜃 as shown in the diagram.

To make the hat, sides [OA] and [OB] are joined together. The hat has a base radius of
6.5 cm.

Write down the perimeter of the base of the hat in terms of 𝜋𝜋.

4
4b. [2 marks]
Find the value of 𝜃𝜃.

4c. [2 marks]
Find the surface area of the outside of the hat.

Charlie and Daniella each began a fitness programme. On day one, they both ran 500 m. On
each subsequent day, Charlie ran 100 m more than the previous day whereas Daniella
increased her distance by 2% of the distance ran on the previous day. Calculate how far
Charlie ran on day 20 of his fitness programme.

5
5b. [3 marks]
Daniella ran on day 20 of her fitness programme.

5c. [3 marks]
On day 𝑛𝑛 of the fitness programmes Daniella runs more than Charlie for the first time.
Find the value of 𝑛𝑛.

Two schools are represented by points A(2, 20) and B(14, 24) on the graph below. A
road, represented by the line 𝑅𝑅 with equation −𝑥𝑥 + 𝑦𝑦 = 4, passes near the schools. An
architect is asked to determine the location of a new bus stop on the road such that it is the
same distance from the two schools.

Find the equation of the perpendicular bisector of [AB] . Give your equation in the form
𝑦𝑦 = 𝑚𝑚𝑚𝑚 + 𝑐𝑐.

7
6b. [2 marks]
Determine the coordinates of the point on 𝑅𝑅 where the bus stop should be located.

7a. [3 marks]
In this question, give all answers correct to 2 decimal places.
Raul and Rosy want to buy a new house and they need a loan of 170 000 Australian
dollars (𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴𝐴) from a bank. The loan is for 30 years and the annual interest rate for the loan
is 3.8%, compounded monthly. They will pay the loan in fixed monthly instalments at the
end of each month. Find the amount they will pay the bank each month.

7b. [3 marks]
Find the amount Raul and Rosy will still owe the bank at the end of the first 10 years.
