Three-Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition

Dear Students,

Greetings from the Department of CSE, IUB!

We are thrilled to invite you to the CSE Research Day - 2024, a celebration of research excellence within
the Department of CSE! This exciting event will be held on Thursday, 07 March 2024, at 02:00 PM in
IUB Auditorium. You are cordially invited to participate in the upcoming CSE Research Day. Please
confirm your attendance by 04 March 2024 by registering through this Google Form.

Adding to the excitement, we are introducing the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition this year! The
3MT competition is a platform for students to showcase their research in an engaging and accessible way.
Participants have just three minutes to present their complex research topic to a non-specialist audience,
using a single presentation slide, clear language, and captivating storytelling. The competition not only
celebrates research excellence but also equips students with valuable communication and public speaking
skills that benefit them throughout their academic and professional careers. This event presents a unique
opportunity for students across all degree programs, both graduate and undergraduate, to showcase their
research projects through a 3MT Presentation.

Get ready to be wowed! Learn more about 3MT and participate! Obviously, the top four winners will get
prize money as awards!

Eligibility Criteria for Participating in the 3MT Competition:
● Currently Enrolled Students:
○ Open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the Department of
CSE.
○ Must be actively engaged in an MSc Thesis, MSc Research Project, or BSc Senior
Project under the supervision of a faculty member within the department.
● Recent Graduates:
○ Open to individuals who graduated with a BSc or MSc degree in Autumn-2023 from the
Department of CSE.
○ Must have completed an MSc Thesis, MSc Research Project, or BSc Senior Project
during their studies.

Please note: Priority will be given to currently enrolled students for participation in the 3MT
Competition. If available slots are not filled by currently enrolled students, recent graduates may be
invited to participate. Only one member from each BSc Senior Project group needs to register for the
3MT Competition.

The top presenters in the 3MT Competition will be recognized with awards at the ceremony.

● Winner: 10,000 BDT

● 1st Runner Up: 5,000 BDT
● 2nd Runner Up: 2,500 BDT
● People's Choice: 2,500 BDT

We encourage all eligible students and recent graduates to apply and share their research with the CSE
community. To participate or express interest in the 3MT Competition, please complete the relevant
registration Google Form by 25 February 2024, Sunday. The form will require your tentative research
topic title and an abstract of your research within 300 words for initial screening. Following the
application deadline, selected applicants will be notified on 26 February 2024 by email, and invited to
participate in the final 3MT competition. Upon selection, you will receive detailed information about
presentation guidelines and event regulations.

● Registration for 3MT Competition: 25 February 2024 (RSVP at this Google Form)
● Notification of Final Selection for 3MT Competition: 26 February 2024
