HUB
-Also known as network card, network adapter, or NIC
Main function: it is the transmission and receipt of data
-Each card has a single IP address
-Example: netword cards allows, in an office, two computers to
share the same internet connection or that users of such computers
can work with the documents housed in the hard drive of either of
the two compute.
-Types:
a)Wireless card
b)Ethernet card
c)Fiber optic card

Network interface cards

-Work on layer 1 of the OSI model.
-Receives a signal and repeats it throught the differents
ports.
-Today, repeaters and hubs have been made mostly
obsolete by switches

REPEATERS AND HUBS

-A network bridge connect multiple network segments at the data link layer 2 of
the OSI model.
-Bridges broadcast to all ports except the port on which the broadcast was
received.
-Its learns which MAC addresses are reachable through specific ports.
Types:
a)Local bridges, coneect LANs
b)Remote bridges: create a wide area networks link between LANs.
c)Wireless bridges: can be used to join LANs or connect remote stations to
LANs

BRIDGES
-It rejects access requests from unsafe sources while allowing actiones
from recognized ones.
-Advantages:
a)Blocks access to people and/or apllicactions.
b)It allows controlling and restricting communications between the
parties.

FIREWALLS
-Forwards and filters OSI layer 2 datagrams
-Only forwards the frames to the ports involved in the
communication rather than all ports connected.
-Make forwarding decisions of frames on the basis of
MAC addresses

SWITCHES
-Is an internetworking device that forwards packets between
networks by processing information found in the datagram or
packets.
-Layer 3 of the OSI model.
