Odysseus enters the stage and says that on the island of Lemnos where they currently were
, some time ago he left the son of Achilles , one of the bravest Greeks , because he was
wounded and had this awful infections sore in his foot. he kept screaming the whole time so
Odysseus might have gotten annoyed by him. he is so disloyal in my opinion, I mean who
would leave the bravest hero and your friend , or even a person on the island all alone while
they are wounded and got bitten by a literal snake. apparently , he screamed so much they
couldn’t make libations or burn sacrifice so they left him and went on their way without
him. they had some task: to find a rock which they could have as two openings shaped like
two seats, facing the sun and when it was hot , the breeze wafts sleep in through the
chamber tunnel , to the left below if you might glimpse a water spring , if it’s still
functioning. NEOPTOLEMUS sets out searching, moving up towards the opening of the cave.
Neoptolemus says that he saw the cave and they were close. he said that there was a bed of
leaves so someone might have lived there. NEOPTOLEMUS comes back down and whispers
to his ATTENDANT, who then leaves. he said that the plan was like : “You have to trick him,
lead his mind astray. When he asks who you are and where you’re from, say you’re Achilles’
son—no deception there. But tell him you intend to sail for home. You’ve left the Achaeans’
naval forces because you truly hate them. And here’s why in their prayers they summoned
you from home to Troy, since you’re the only hope they’ve got to take the city. But then they
judged you not good enough to have Achilles’ arms, although you came to claim them as
your right. Instead they gave them to Odysseus. Say what you like of me—pile up the insults,
the worst there are. That won’t injure me. But if you don’t go through with what I say, you’ll
hurt the Argives, every one of them. “ Odysseus said that there was no solution unless he
lied because if they started challenging him , he would win anyway.
Philoctetes comes , and Neoptolemus tells him that he is Greek . Philoctetes tell
Neoptolemus his story that he had no one on this island , he was alone , he had no fire , he
just had this infection. Neoptolemus said that his father was dead by Phoebus Apollo .

after hearing the false story from Neoptolemus and the chorus , and said that
his story harmonized with theirs and he said that the sons of Atreus and
Odysseus are really horrible people and they are full with evilness and lies.
Neoptolemus told Philoctetes that Ajax was no longer alive. Nestor wasn’t
doing fine as well, the son of his is dead. Patroclus is also dead. Neoptolemus
was in a rush because the ships would more away. Philoctetes was begging him
to take him and Neoptolemus said yes. a merchant enters the cave and says
that he asked the watcher where he could find him. merchant said that the
sons of Theseus and old phoenix was coming after him. there was this
prophet , Helenus , Odysseus wanted to capture him. he captured him and tied
up and bought back to Argives. then he made a prophesy concerning Troy ,
they would never smash its mighty citadel unless they could persuade
Philoctetes to give them the bow. Neoptolemus wanted to hold it and inspect
it better. then they go in cave together. chorus said that they don’t know
anyone who has worse fate than Philoctetes , a man who did nothing wrong to
anyone by violence but acted fairly towards people when they didn’t deserve
it. he was abandoned to die. he had no neighbor but himself and he had no on
to talk to, no companion but now he would find happiness. NEOPTOLEMUS
and PHILOCTETES come out from the cave. PHILOCTETES is carrying his bow
and is in obvious pain. he was really in pain.
